Hello again!
It's been a while but I suppose it's better late than never. I haven't been doing much to be honest. Anyways as the nature of these posts go, I'm now going to select some topic I have written down on a dusty piece of paper and ramble about it.
Today's topic is: Cooking and Food.
I like food. Especially the food what I make. It's a great feeling to have a good meal knowing that you did it. It's an even greater feeling when those around you try the food you made and enjoy it.
I have a simple cooking style, that being dumping whatever spices/seasonings (herbs too sometimes) you can find in the store into your food. I'd guess it may be weird that I put more into my food than just salt and pepper. I just put them in because it increases the quality of the food. (Isn't it what spices are for, Captain Obvious?) I just think it is cool to see how spices can go a long way in cooking.
I only became really conscious of it when I decided to put all sorts of spices while I was frying an egg... only to eat it with a slice of bread with butter AND with a lot of spices on top! It was delicious but did I really need to put all that effort for such a simple bit of cookery? You may be the judge.
My favourite seasonings are (in no specific order) are: oregano, paprika, turmeric, coriander, allspice, powdered chili peppers, mustard seeds, thyme, rosemary and cinnamon.
(I very recently obtained cloves and I have only just started experimenting with them with my food so they might make the list in a while.)
My goodness, the spices have stolen the show! It's time to discuss cooking!
I separate cooking into three "official classes" and one "unofficial class".
The official classes are:
- Simple meals. They are relatively small meals cooked in short amounts of time with few ingredients. I make them when I just want some fuel in the tank before I get going.
- Complex meals. Larger meals using more ingredients that take longer to prepare and cook. I make them when I just want a good supply of food to last a couple days or i just want to eat something nice.
- Baked treats. These are just desserts that spend time in the oven. I don't make them often and it's usually a late night endeavour that I do so I have at least something good to look forward to in the morning.
I don't know what else I can mention here. That's all for today's edition of Teppo47's Odds and Ends. Feel free to comment below what you like/dislike about cooking, your favourite foods, particular cooking styles, recipes etc. Have a good day/evening and happy Independence Day to all the Americans and other people that observe Independence Day on this date!
