Thoughts on Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye

Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye is such a tragic story and I'm gonna be thinking about it forever. Like even if I lose interest in Transformers, I'll still think about MTMTE because it's so interesting and SO sad. I haven't gotten the whole of it but I've had the ending spoiled (many such cases when something has existed for more than a decade) and WAOW. Like from what I've heard and seen Transformers More Than Meets the Eye is steeped in pessimism and cynicism and ends on the idea that you'll die alone and with indifference. And it reminds me a lot of Orpheus and Eurydice. Not in the classic sense of a quest to bring a loved one back from the dead but more that the love was there and it didn't save anyone. Characters from the main cast die and don't come back, some have their world view shifted and become wholly disenchanted with life and living. The main character spends his entire life chasing the Glory Days.

Like... woah! That's really fucked up!! But. And take this with a grain of salt I haven't finished the thing. But despite this to me personally I still see Transformers MTMTE as an uplifting and hopeful story. Like yes the love never saved anyone. But it was there and it mattered. And that's a very important theme to me.

When coming away from Transformers MTMTE with the idea "I'll die alone and with indifference" I think it's also important to note that the OTHER central theme is "without love there is no meaning." And it looks like these two ideas would clash or somehow contradict each other but I think they work really well together. I can't explain it and maybe it's just how I'm personally interpreting it but I hope you get me anyways.
