Leopard Gecko No-Nos...

Heya, Im Liv, I'm a reptile lover and rescuer, I just wanted to make a blog post talking about things that really really bother me when it comes to, honestly, general common domesticated reptile husbandry that I see a lot. I work at a petstore, and although we dont actually house pets, were a supply store, so many people come in and tell me DEVISTATING things...

First and foremost, Red lights are a nooooo. They dont actually need ANY light at night, and red light damages their eyes!! All you should need is a basking bulb and a UVB strip, not a uvb bulb that goes into a dome.

Heat rocks are a no, they can burn your pet! All you need is a basking bulb! :) Heat rocks and such don't heat them internally where they need.

Single substrate is also a no! You should never have just sand or just dirt, you should have a 70/30 mix! Sand should be washed thoroughly and dirt should be baked. And ABSOLUTLEY NO VITASAND!! Leapord geckos instinctively look for calcium in the wild and will EAT vitasand and become impacted. You'll save so much money properly getting safe topsoil and playsand and treating them, just takes time.

Thank you for listening to my cries lol.
