What should I do if I can't get out of the art block for several months?

For several months now I have been forcing myself to draw or take photos, despite the fact that I don’t want to do it at all. Before, it was the only thing I could do, but now depression has swallowed up the rest of the desire to do anything.

recently ocean vuong spoke about artist's block and had this to say:

'writer's block is in relation to productivity - cause then you have to ask: 'a block according to whom? block according to what measure of production?' so for me, if i can't write, i think. and thats productive. its not about creating something quantifiable.'

maybe instead of forcing yourself into a type of production, try finding a version of productivity that works for you. if thinking doesn't speak to you, maybe try taking walks and observing the world with no intention of creating something. :)

I had a similar situation once and tbh I just listened and stopped- my break from art lasted for, like, a month or two?? Maybe even longer but when I suddenly remembered I can draw and picked up a pencil again I got an artstyle upgrade and my mind was filled with fresh ideas !

it happened only once and probs because of school/winter depression but it was a nice break, don't force yourself to draw if you don't want to ^o^

My advice is – Don’t force it. Seriously. Forcing art when you're drained just makes you hate it more. Sometimes the most “artistic” thing you can do is not create. The desire will come back eventually 🖤.
