you all know the drill. videos of AI brainrot creatures, repetitive songs with useless lyrics, watching something while eating (hate to break it to you but yes it's not good for you) and doomscrolling for hours at a time. these are few of many things that are causing almost every young individual to have a short attention span.
by definition, short attention span is a condition where an individual has difficulty maintaining focus on things for an extended period of time. basically anyone who has a short attention span won't be able to do something for a few minutes without feeling bored or distracted. most of our generation and also the generation below us (gen alpha and maybe gen beta, although the oldest today would probably be 7 months old) are suffering from it right now. and let me tell you, that's a HORRIBLE discovery. we're fucking doomed.
people who have short attention spans lack literacy. hell, they won't even BOTHER reading this whole thing, let alone OPEN IT. "holy essay!" they yelled. then they'll just brush it off and go back to their useless activity that is slowly ruining their lives. to you who actually read the whole thing, I'm actually so proud of you. you're a glimpse of the population that can and WILL make a difference in this world. keep going!
I'm certain of this opinion of mine to the point I've put such cruel words as the title because of one thing that's going on in my household. I come from five children, and I have a younger brother. out of all of us, he's the only one who hates reading; you would NEVER see him with a book. my mom would yell at him as he sat down in front of the television and starts watching YouTube Shorts for approximately five to six hours while ALSO playing MOBILE LEGENDS. he would do this every day. multitasking at its finest. "go read those encyclopedia books!" she'd say. my brother would look at her and yell "NO! ugh," WOW, talk about DISRESPECT! anyway, he also feels too confident with his grades. sadly, unlike his expectations, it kinda dropped. why? oh I DON'T KNOW, maybe because he WON'T EVEN BOTHER TO READ.
staring at the screen for a very long time will also give you motion sickness. it's different compared to short attention span but it doesn't get any better. you'll feel severe headaches, intense sweating and even vomiting. allat and your parents won't excuse you to not go to school because you don't have a fever. that would be bad!
yea anyways aside from all the yapping I'm also gonna point out that this isn't directed towards those who have ADHD. ADHD is a disorder; short attention span is a common symptom. having ADHD means you (most likely) have a short attention span but having short attention span doesn't mean you have ADHD. okay! ALSO THIS IS ALL JUST MY OPINION!!!!!!!!!!11 toodles

Best way to regain attention span (as someone with ADHD and married to someone with autism) is to go back to the older days. Watching live TV, puzzles, quiz games, writing, drawing, animating all that! My wife and I bought DVDs and already have an insane collection. We have 0 streaming services and tiktok is barely on our phones! It's benefited us tremendously!
i'm in the same place i love dvds a lot more than streaming and im on youtube way more than tiktok these days watching LONG videos

It's for this reason that I'm never gonna use tiktok in my life. I mean I only use a few social medias, I turned off my YouTube recommended (I don't use YouTube that much tho I prefer odysee.) And I also etheir use a 2019 android phone (with lineage os so I can at least have good security ) or a flip phone. I still wanna have an attention span smh
