Since the summer started I've been trying to keep a commonplace book because I've been seeing them in a lot of those low tech living videos and keeping a journal has made a noticeable improvement in my life even though it's barely been a month of using it. Keeping a physical one forces me to practice my handwriting and think through what I write considering I'm a terrible speller. I end up using it like a mini diary, writing what I want to get done and reflecting at the end of the day, all in like 2 sentences
Otherwise I put down random reminders and things I don't want to forget down, and really the act of writing it helps me not to forget. Same reason I keep a whiteboard. Also something I do personally is keep sticky notes on my table and dresser and have a small notepad and pen I carry with me from before my commonplace book in an effort not to forget small things I think of.

Currently using an old dotted journal I got when bullet journaling was big(i never used it it was too intimating), originally not my favorite because it provides less structure for my again sloppy penmanship, but I like the freedom it provides unlike my lined paper diary. It might seem redundant but I use my diary for thinking through and getting out emotions and thoughts that have been bugging me for weeks. While the commonplace book it's much more stream of consciousness. If it interest you to know my diary is an A4 binder while i plan to keep any subsequent commonplace books as normal journals. When looking at other commonplace books they aren't the prettiest or the nicest, they get the job done, are relatively small and unobtrusive and that's what I love about it.

I also have a large collection of second hand DVDs that I need to watch eventually. I want to use this summer to get through my back catalog in general. So anything I watch or play that I've been meaning to I take note of my feelings during and after in my common place book. For me it's about being a conscious consumer and practicing putting down my thoughts on the media I experience and making sure I think about them even slightly more. It's easy to be smart in the age of AI, having any drive at all can put you 10 steps ahead.
If you couldn’t guess I really want to get a dumphone whenever my current phone stops working but that should be a rant for another time. This rant largely inspired by this blog post and this video as well as theses fun links-

Hi Carpert! I'm using my summer for pretty much the same thing. I hope you enjoy unplugging!
Just know that you can limit certain things on your current phone. A lot of "dumb phones" are super overpriced for what they're offering. If you decide to get an older model phone, just make sure it can use modern networks!
