As I light a candle of remembrance
for each and every one
dearly loved, long gone
the memories stray,
steeped from the archives,
voices, quotes, anecdotes
come to the forefront,
the banter of 'episodes'
play out once more...
those larger- than- life Characters
still missed in the empty void.
Twilight years beckon
a yearning for what once was
of traditional Christmas's past
Tinsel, holly berries, glitter
sparkle and shimmer
amidst a haze of twinkling lights
Snowy pines glisten
distant bells systematically chime,
tree-lined desolate streets echo,
harmonising voices in song of rhyme.
Chunky logs stack the grand old fireplace
as it slowly takes hold,
spurts, crackles and roars
in flames of blue, orange, and gold.
aromas of savoury meats permeate
as chestnuts roast upon the open fire
and ancient stories of nativity told
So, I'll raise a goblet of burgundy wine
in memory of you, you and You,
reminiscing cinematic flash-backs
transcends the passages of time...
