02✨6/29-screen eyes

# Highlight 02✨: 06-29-25

## screen eyes

Another band I've seen, Gorgeous, a 2 piece act. I was floored when I saw them play "Screen Eyes". I've tried to again 2 or 3 times, but somehow kept managing to miss their set. The song is simply about trying to be close to someone who seems more interested in their phone when you hang out. Relatable sentiment but I'm more into the sound.

## nerdge

The stripped back sound of this mathy duo is eccentric but intimate, especially live. I admit it's the only song that stuck with me, but their performance is great nonetheless.

I'm also an absolute nerd for odd time in music. The main rhythm goes between 6/4 to 4/4 for a total count of 10/4, before the chorus rocks you with a simple 3/4 ballad. It's a feat Dana can sing and shred guitar with all their wacky parts. And Judd's drum fill at the end gets me every time.

## words

I have this thing where certain words just capture me, like a monkey minding it's business in Ape Escape, and then GOTCHA!
"When we met~, I was young and dumb.
Now I'm ol~der and just as dumb..."
I run that one through my head just about every day. Tfw you realize years later, you're still figuring it out. Maybe you messed up a relationship and just wish you knew better. Don't worry, you'll get 'em next time ;)

## stuff

I've bought some cassettes from them as I have a small collection of older formats. I like the tapes not to listen to, but for the art and detail inside. I love to support artists when I can. I think it's cool that small groups are opting for them as merch, though I'm not sure how cost effective it is.

## intention

In retrospect, I've been kinda annoying in the past about trying to connect with new people. There was a point where I would send someone a song I was obsessed with to see if they liked it. My intention was to make friends who enjoyed the same things. But in eagerness or lack of awareness, I may have appeared dense (albeit many of those people were dense in their own ways).

Now I make it a point to add a personal element; like how things affect me. Even if someone doesn't like something in particular, perhaps they can relate to the feelings you have about it. Better awareness of our communicative ability is essential to building relationships.

P.s: I didn't intend this to come across as a review of songs I like. I genuinely just want to share things that have enveloped me at some point. Hope you're liking these highlights so far!
