Thoughts about leaving the west coast pt.1

Probably the only thing that my queer ass and right wingers agree on, is that california sucks. I’ve lived here all my life, primarily in the Sierra Nevada foothills near Sacramento, and traveled over most of the state.

I feel the problem lies in two aspects, the people and the politics.

California isn’t a communist tyrannical fascist regime, it’s the center of modern American capitalism with a veil of progressive ideals over it. There is no room for people like us here. Even “regular” people are getting increasingly pushed further and further out as the hyper commuter tech employee is prioritized. Outside of small pockets of life, cities are voids of sprawl and single family suburbs. And the spaces between the cities? Most of it is barren, dusty farmlands and pastures. Which, can be very pretty, but there is so much of it in-between everything that it becomes mind numbing to drive anywhere outside of your adjacent area. And you will be driving everywhere. The train lines between cities are almost non existent outside of a few corridors, and outside of SF, in city public transportation is limited to small Light Rail lines. This state was built on car dependency.

Much has been written about west coast people, especially california people, so I won’t reiterate it. However, most of it is true. People here are just incredibly superficial, apathetic and quiet. Making friends is near impossible, unless you are in incredibly specific small communities. This is a problem everywhere in the US currently, but the average Californian's disposition and the length of travel to anything doesn't make it better.

In conclusion; I don’t like it here :/ However, it will always be my home. The land is beautiful and I don’t think I’ll find anywhere else like it. Some of the most beautiful natural places in the world are situated in California, and even after 20 years I still feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface sight seeing.

Hopefully me and my girlfriend will find a home somewhere, but it will be out of state, I know that for sure. Rant over… TwT
