Game Review - FNAF: Secret of the Mimic

Good day ladies and gentlemen, I'm just gonna cut right to the chase.

This game flabbergasted me so much, I just had to revive the game reviews for it. FNAF: Secret of the Mimic is uh... 14th(?) FNAF game if you count the Security Breach DLC as yet another game.

For me personally, the franchise ended on the 7th game. Every game after Ultimate Custom Night is just exhausted random additions to the franchise to milk it dry as Pizzeria Simulator and UCN tied the knot on the franchise's story and lore very neatly and it was a very satisfying ending.

That aside, I have a lot of things to say about this game as this was the first fnaf game I finally had the pleasure of sitting down and playing myself when it came out rather than watching someone play first then playing it.

Gameplay(1/10):

Do you like doing the same puzzle 5 times?

Do you like chase sequences with no way of losing other than letting go of your keyboard?

Do you hate having actual stakes in a game?

Well, this game is right up your alley!

This whole game is just a walking simulator with absolutely nothing happening, and then you get one area with a mildly threatening enemy(either the mimic or some random robot) where you can either straight up run through the whole encounter, or spam the mouse toys nearby to permanently distract the enemy.

Yeah pro tip if you're gonna play this game, when you go into a locker there's like a 75% chance the enemy will forget you were ever there even if you went in it right before it's eyes.

The enemy AI is non-existent, I saw the enemy lose track of me IN THE MIDDLE OF chasing me.

Also every single "puzzle" in the game is made for literal toddlers. Like there's "timed" challenges where if you know how to hold a keyboard and mouse, you'll beat the challenge within 1/5th of the time given to you and are forced to wait until the timer runs out.

Jumpscares were also pretty much non-existent and every gameplay segment with "suspense" was so obviously scripted. The game's "spooky" parts were so god damn predictable, I played the game with friends in vc and the whole game were like just "this part is gonna break" "something is gonna pop out of here" "this costume is gonna come to life" "it's gonna teleport closer last second for suspense" and we were right every single time.

Story(0/10):

Now, I stopped keeping track of FNAF lore after Fazbear Frights. I will still watch the occasional Game Theory video if it ever pops up but I am not reading the Tales from the Pizzaplex books. I looked at every single game, I read the original novels/Fazbear Frights, and that's when the series started shitting itself. So I'm not fully up to date on the most recent lore. I know Tiger Rock's importance and stuff but y'know, all my knowledge is surface level.

So I'm sure there was immense lore drops that I somehow missed in this game, but other than those. This game's story was a whole lot of nothing burger.

The only "story" given to you was just "go in there, grab the thing, leave" and I could immediately tell the whole time I was just talking to the Mimic because of course the same plot twist won't work twice Steel Wool you absolute tools.

Don't even get me started on the endings. I don't care about the putting the Mimic to bed ending but the Good and the Bad endings REALLY pissed me off.

In the bad ending, you hand the blueprints you found to the Mimic and leave. The Mimic sneaks into your car and kills you. So the conclusion: Protagonist is dead, Mimic has the blueprints.

In the good ending, you refuse to hand the blueprints you found to the Mimic and go through a whole 30 minutes or so segment of chasing, lore drops and mild stealth to escape from the facility with the blueprints. Then the Mimic sneaks into your car, makes you crash the car, steals the blueprints and leaves the protagonist to die. So the conclusion: Protagonist is dead, Mimic has the blueprints.

THEY BOTH LEAD TO THE SAME GOD DAMN CONCLUSION!!!

This shit was genuinely so ass.

Music(0/10):

Every musical section in this game made me wanna rip my ears out, I get it, it's a children's attraction, stop making me listen to 5 minutes of singing just to continue.

Other than that, I think there were a couple "intense" BGMs during gameplay but I never noticed them. They were very forgettable.

Overall(1/10):

This game just makes me sad. I miss when FNAF games had actual gameplay instead of just being walking simulators where you just walk around and try to find lore with no gameplay whatsoever.

The game is just a pain to play through, it's mildly fun if you play with friends to make fun of it but other than that, I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone.

Like and subscribble, I might make another(I won't)

This is the best game eI've ever played and the fact you rate it so low hurts my feelings. the mimic helped me through my depression. Do Better.

If this is the best game you've ever played then I'm worried man. I'm assuming you've never played video games before because any other game is better than running in a straight line and doing the same puzzle 800 times

Omg! This is so cool! I hardly ever see people do game rating on here :00

P.S
As someone who has been interested in most of the FNAF games, the newer ones really feel like they drag on. I want something new and creative! How long can FNAF keep doing this same song and dance.. :(

they made the lore so unreasonably convoluted that they have to spoonfeed us every detail or it's impossible to tell what is going on

but it could*

it could've been if there was anything unique in it. It's just the same stealth you played throughout the whole game and the same turning gears puzzle you did the whole game again to win

Personally I think the animations and designs were pretty cool, the map looked cool at some areas too.
Mostly it's that toy factory ah vibes, but still has some cool parts here n there
