the thorough Alien Stage discography review (CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR ALNST) (a mediocre review)

hii & welcome!! so since that Alien Stage is in its final stage of the project, I decided to do a thorough review of each song within the series (plus the sub songs) i will update if Vivimeng/Studio Lico/or any of the cast releases more songs but here's a thorough review of all 17 songs (main songs + sub character songs)

here's some ground rules for this review

  1. I won't be doing any of the remixes or the covers i'm only reviewing the original songs (talking abt smth like C!naH and RubyEye's CURE cover) i already got 17 songs to review and I don't need add more i listened to them and I agree with how differently the cast expresses their emotions in the songs made the song sound different from the original but i don't want to make this review way too long
  2. i will be separating the review into three parts : the main song review, sub character songs and finally the ranking of the songs on my enjoyment level
  3. also the ranking will also separated into three categories, main songs, subchar and all of them in an overall ranking
  4. since this is my first time doing a song review let alone a review as long as this, so i apologize if it's not as comprehensive as how an actual song review would be. This review could included a small character study + story analysis (idk depends on how you see it ig i may make an ALNST character study or may not)
  5. amateur-ish review writing don't expect any good review </3
with that out of the way, let's get this review started.

MAIN SONGS (IN ORDER)

  1. My Clematis - C!naH and RubyEye : This is the first song that was played as an introduction to this series, despite how dark the song, the song starts pretty lighthearted. The song is about Mizi and Sua's love for each other. The song plays out like a love letter or a poem (and knowing further into the series it is actually) with it's slow and melancholic like melody, both C!naH and RubyEye delivered their parts perfectly especially RubyEye putting in the much more somber tone in the final lines of the songs showing Mizi's shock, grief and sadness. tl;dr : great song, i enjoyed it but it's not like one of my favs 6/10
  2. Sweet Dream - C!naH : The second song in the main storyline, it serves to show the world of Alien Stage and how the humans live in them (playing exactly well with how the song is structured.) It's one of my favorite songs because of how the song works in the whole story. Sweet Dream plays out like a typical 1980 pop song, think Miki Matsubara's Stay With Me or Yasuha's Fly-day Chinatown but i also it plays out as a religious hymn with the post chorus part. The song talks about the state of being a human, from being helpless as they lived as pets/animals towards the aliens and clinging onto a higher being (God like how My Clematis talks abt how us as humans depend on God when we couldn't solve something with our own strength), C!naH also is the best choice for this song's main vocal, her soft voice really plays her as both the main core of the song and delivering the song's ideas. amazing song it literally instilled into me that C!naH will be one of my fav vocals in this project. 8/10
  3. Unknown (Till the End) - AKUGETSU : this isn't the song that introduced me to Till (let alone Alien Stage as a whole) and it's not like a song that got me too hooked, i always told myself that I enjoyed all types of rock but this song didn't do it for me, it's good but nothing memorable for me. It did however painted a good narrative on what type of character Till will be + AKUGETSU is such a great vocal. Overall not a bad song, lowk the lowest in my main song ranking. 5/10
  4. Black Sorrow - PARK BYEONG HOON : this song is lowk in the same spot as Unknown (TTE) but i enjoyed it more overall. The song being a ballad is a great touch,a slower song to calm down from how intense the three songs has been, Park Byeong Hoon did a GREAT job expressing the intense emotions as Ivan like it's one of the reasons I don't enjoy RubyEye's cover of it as much as i did the original Black Sorrow. 7/10
  5. Ruler of My Heart - RubyEye and BL8M : the second best duet song besides Wiege imo, it's intense and fun at the same time?? Like if it weren't for Karma and Wiege, i think this would place the first spot as my fav song from each cast member. I really like how it's so harmonic and some of BL8M notes just hit the right spots in my eardrums. If i were to live and only listen to RoMH for the rest of my life, I wouldn't even mind at all. 9/10
  6. All-In - 6FU : THIS IS SUCH A FUN SONG like it's a better rock song compared to Unknown (TTE), 6FU's vocals were so good and i was able to know more about Hyuna's character even before watching the MV for this, the instrumental was phenomenal too in my opinion that it's easy to enjoy both original and AKUGETSU's cover of this song. 9/10
  7. CURE - AKUGETSU and PARK BYEONG HOON : PEAK PEAK PEAK!! THE INSTRUMENTAL, THE VOCALS AND THE EMOTIONS. AKUGETSU AND PARK BYEONG HOON IS SUCH A GOOD DUO, THEIR VOICE LITERALLY COMPLETE THE SONG ALL TOGETHER. LIKE I LOVE RUBYEYE AND C!NAH'S COVER OF IT IT'S JUST THAT GOOD OF A SONG!! 10/10
  8. Blink Gone - AKUGETSU and BL8M : I enjoyed this more than Unknown that's for sure, i like the instrumental and AKUGETSU and BL8M were pretty good vocals, it's something I'll listen again but fairly i only will say it's catchy for me only nothng else. 5/10
  9. Wiege - BL8M & 6FU : I have no words to explain my love for Wiege as a whole. The entire song plays like a lullaby (fair the song's name is translated to Cradle in German), i love the entire melancholic vibe of the song, and listening to 6FU sing these more somber type of melodies is a really welcomed surprise, BL8M never disappoints with his vocals omfg. 10/10
  10. Karma - RubyEye and C!naH : it feels like slow dancing while everything explodes around you, ngl i believe it's an antithesis to My Clematis, two love songs completing each other. The instrumental is beautiful, it feels like i'm attending an orchestra at the end of the world. The vocals make me feel like I'm in a jazz club where everything is set on fire. Maybe i'm being melodramatic but i would play Karma if the world is ending and die happily. It's just that good of a song. 10/10

SUB SONGS

1. HYUNA (6FU;) :
  • LOVE AND PEACE : I LOVE LOVE LOVE METAL so i really enjoyed this song, 6FU; is definitely made for these genre of music, the instrumental is my favorite part of the song, it kinda reminds me of an anime opening of something i would watch back when i had more time for anime (;-;). 9/10
  • DRUNK AND PARTY : I really like how it changed to rock as an antithesis to Love & Peace, i really enjoyed 6FU;'s performance in this one, i'm kinda at a crossroad with both of these songs. 9/10
  • HOLD MY HAND : this song literally blew me away?? i know i said Love & Peace reminds me of an anime opening but this literally could be an anime ending and i couldn't tell it apart. 6FU;'s vocals was phenomenal in this one and this is literally my fav 6FU; performance than Wiege. 10/10
2. IVAN (PARK BYEONG HOON) :
  • NOWHERE : Well, no wonder why everyone hyped this song out of all the sub songs, i really enjoyed the semi(?) upbeat melody and i never doubted Park Byeong Hoon's performances, i don't really have anything to say about it other than the fact that it's good. 8/10
  • PARATISE : Ngl, i don't get the hype for this one, the instrumental and vocals are good but there are few parts within the song that didn't hit for me and kinda made me cringe a little bit?? like the songs could be good but I feel like the English parts kinda make the song sound so weird?? like i could be vibing to the song and kinda get splashed by cold water of the English lyrics. 7/10
3. SUA (C!naH) :
  • HEART : the only sub song that truly captured my heart (haha), this is such a fresh take into Sua's character since the only songs we have of her (canonically and before Karma) is My Clematis and Sweet Dream which i theorize both to be more from Mizi's pov rather than Sua's, i really love C!naH's performance in this one like holy shit i want more of her performance outside the covers rn. Her voice is also soothing and paired with the beautiful instrumental if I have exactly 3 mins and 13 seconds to live, I will be living my last moments listening to this. 10/10
4. TILL (AKUGETSU) :
  • MI VIDA LOCA : it's kinda good? i think it's better than Paratise (in terms of sub songs) and Unknown (in terms of Till's songs), i like the instrumental and AKUGETSU imo is one of the best performers in this but i probably wouldn't listen to it as much as I will with any other Alien Stage song like it would be there if I wanna listen to all ALNST songs but not when I want something good to listen
