My home state is banning books again. Or “challenging” them. Same shit, different excuse. To Kill a Mockingbird, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, and The Diary of Anne Frank are all under fire. Not because they’re new, not because they’re controversial, but because they’ve got “graphic language,” or they “make people uncomfortable.” Which is wild, considering they’re about racism, genocide, war...real things that actually happened.
Like, yeah. These books are uncomfortable. They should be. If a book about the Holocaust makes you feel weird, good. That’s the fucking point.
But guess what’s still fully available in school libraries, no problem? A Court of Thorns and Roses. (at least in my state).
Listen, I could care less if someone enjoys fantasy porn. If that's your thing, it's your thing. I genuinely don't have a single judgmental bone in my body. If you wanna go out and buy it, cool! But when my little sister's school librarian says this book was one of her favorites of 2025, it makes me wonder if we should be letting schools provide erotica.
On the flip side, if we think that certain books that contain detailed sex scenes are okay... Why is The Diary of Anne Frank and MANNNY others NOT okay?
I swear I'm fun at parties.

I'm guessing you're from a red state.
This shit is getting really bad all over the country. Local governments are persecuting books that disagree with their far-right agenda.
Not that younger students are even reading anymore. Which makes this all ten times worse.
Why ban books from school libraries if kids aren't reading anyway?
Glad you're staying aware. Much love!
Unfortunately, your guess would be correct.
My younger sister loves to read but was never really introduced to a lot through the school curriculum. It seems to me that a lot of work is just online.
Seeing that the Hunger Games wasn't in her library broke me a bit. Thx for your comment! I enjoy seeing some like-minded people out there <33

Bless you and your sister for being the exception not the norm. Glad to meet you too!
