some stuff about fandoms

in my opinion, fandoms have been losing their whimsy ever since 2023 rolled around, for some reason i just felt like the air got different that year and everything lowkey changed for the worst

"(insert thing) in the big 2025 🥀🥀" "whatever makes this fandom stay alive ig" WHERES THE FUN.

back in the derpy animation meme era that lasted from 2016 to 2019 i felt a huge sense of community with my own fandoms at that time even tho i was a kid (my fandoms were mlp, powerpuff girls, tawog, fnaf, yansim and undertale) and literally nothing was cringe to anyone

even tho i now know that kittydog is a horrible person, years ago i used to search up hacks on how to animate like them with that gradient effect and i would spend HOURS on flipaclip, sony sketch and ibis paint x trying to replicate kittydog's artstyle among others like stariaat and wolfychu

where's the whimsy, the joy and the fun in having interests at this point? it's kinda sad ╯︿╰ ... (i kinda blame both tiktok and tumblr for having WAY too many weird ppl in fandoms and for having fun police officers)

thx for reading btw

cringe comps probably have something to do with fandom culture dying off. the comps just make fun of "weird" people (read: alt. people, kids, fat people, furries and therians, etc.). i imagine that those comps had a hand in making people scared to be themselves, lest they be labeled "cringe" and put in a mean youtube video.

ohmygod those videos as well!! ://
posting ur cosplays can be rly fun until u end up in a tiktok cringe comp made by losers for losers
im convinced that the ppl that do this r utterly miserable nd have nothing to do with their lives so they start projecting on others who can happily express themselves3

I think because there was a lot of cringe shit social media (especially tik tok) in 2020, most of the people who grew up with that are now trying to compensate for their previous cringe by being 'nonchalant'... I think the trend of being nonchalant is only prevalent in the mainstream though as many of the communities I surround myself with are still full of whimsy now

normalize being chalant plz

but same the fandoms im in rn still feel whimsical and fun with barely any party poopers :3 kinda sad that the mainstream went for a collective idgaf personality tho, it hurts to see
