Movie review: Brokeback Mountain (2005)

You are alone now

Happy Pride and happy 20th to Brokeback Mountain, a film I had not seen before to the dismay of many I know! I had been accused many times of being a fake gay, but it is remedied now.

Incredibly impressive drama. Cinematography, writing, atmosphere, just really perfect. Interesting pacing but I like a movie that can take it slow. Heath Ledger's performance is the kind that people STUDY, holy shit... He should not be dead, I can't imagine the performances he would have been able to give as an older man. I'd seen him in The Dark Knight, which was obviously also a stellar performance, but watching Brokeback made me realize just how much of a loss his death was.

Anyways, I think this movie deserves a reputation outside of "gay cowboy movie" as a well-crafted drama/romance film. It gets plenty of attention nowadays, but not enough focused on the quality. Emotionally devastating, it's quiet because the destruction keeps itself within Ennis and Jack's lives, but reflects the rest of the world as well. Jack asking Ennis to run away and have a ranch with him and constantly getting denied to the end... makes you wonder if Ennis's thoughts were right or if they really could've had it all together.

Anyways. Good Movie. Give it a watch
