Grunge is political

I had a conversation with a person recently claiming that grunge isn’t political. Grunge derives from punk, and it describes a kind of sound and music that critices the commercial music and the music industry. THAT is political. GOING AGAINST THE SYSTEM is political. The person i had this conversation with said that Kurt Cobain (since i also mentioned him) didn’t want to start any trend, that in relation to his fashion choice that were really simple. BUT Kurt, as well as other lead singers like Eddy Vedder for example, WENT AGAINST THE SYSTEM IN MOST OF THEIR SONGS. The style choice in grunge is partially influenced by Kurt who was really poor, but also became distinticted since it was simple and it simbolised the fact that they didn’t want to be a part of the consumerism culture of the 80s. In conclusion GRUNGE IS POLITICAL, and it’s anticapitalistic and anticonsumerism.
