The way my mom always reminds me that I'm the different one in the family
And I'm not talking about being the only black person in my mom's family.
She always reminds me how I'm not as clingy as they are, that I never call them, that I only meet with them on important dates, that my sense of humor is different, that I'm more serious and sensitive than they are, etc.
And of course, she always has to say "You're just like your father".
I wish she could understand that comparing me to the source of my trauma doesn't help me.
