rant about films

the difference between me liking a movie and not liking it is “show don’t tell”. a lot of movies tell me what to feel. there’s no nuisance in the audience. there’s no discussion. this person did this bad thing and he’s bad so hate him, end of story. this person is sad because sad thing happened so feel sad. none of it seems real. there are not really many movies that just show something that happened without giving you a helping hand in taking it in. no long monologue explaining to me what the dilemma is. i need my mind to be racing with possibilities not wait for the one possible conclusion to take its course.

You might find the early work of Rolf Forsberg particularly interesting. Rarely use of dialogue, and if used, sparingly.

After all, film is a visual medium.

Ark (1970)
Stalked (1967)
