I don't like people when they're like "social media is bad!" but I'm kind of starting to be like them.
Even if such platform has no algorithms and no "bad" moderation (yet allowing users to make awful moderation lists and suspending people who are in a genocide, looking at you, bluesky), it feels rough to use it without getting overwhelmed after a while.
Plenty of reasons are because of bad actors, harassment, getting less engagements than expected, drama, controversies, taking things & people too lightly, and more that I haven't mentioned.
Same at a young age, everything is being chaotic and people like to being way too weird because they have their isolated personalities on the internet.
I don't know when it will get better. I do not like taking breaks on a social media platform, so I will miss things that matter, where I can't find anywhere else. But, I have to for the sake of my mental health.
I still remember the time where I was in a gatekeeping situation many years ago (i was a minor!). Someone had taken a screenshot of an innocent screenshot of one of my posts that only had references, so they could point at me behind my back. I was never the same after that, and I could never see social media as before.
I currently just use SpaceHey at times, because, at least it's okay-ish in terms of the features, the users, and the moderation. It unfortunately still has some oddities, but I hope it will be all solved. I try to report content that I truly know it violates the rules, so there's that.

if no one could earn money from social media it would look a lot different the fact that there is money between something that should just be a social interaction is the source of most not all but most of the issues.
