Uzi. Benelli. Nyne. When I saw the names of the main characters, I ain’t gonna lie, I was sold off rip. A three part series, Daddy’s Gurlz chronicles the lives of the Diaz girls, three sisters that were raised by one of the most ruthless drug dealers in Miami from birth to be trained to go. While these sisters are as thick as thieves, they couldn’t be any more different. Uzi, the eldest, is 26 year virgin who is as mean and cold-hearted as they come. Benelli, the reckless middle sister, has her mind set on two things and two things only: hustling and sexing. And then there’s Nyne, the baby of the crew, who wants nothing more than to become a nurse, and to live out a “normal” life. However, when Marcelo “Loco” Reaves, a longtime rival kingpin, moves next door to Uzi, things begin taking a turn for the worst….orrrr—

Okay so confession — I wasn’t able to put this series down (even now, I’m reading the three part spin-off) because, yess, it’s that good. I pride myself on attempting to give spoiler free review, so I won’t say tooo much, but what I will say is…if you’re looking for a hood love story with humor, drama, plot twist, and some mo’ THIS IS THE SERIES FOR YOU! Brace yourself because the characters that you meet in this Daddy’s Gurlz will span over six parts, so there may be some aspects that may become redundant, especially if you read all six books consecutively. Even still, I am a sucker for sagas — therefore, my ass read each and everyone of them. And when I said read them, I mean into the wee hours of the morning…during my morning meetings at work ... .while I was supposed to be listening to my Business Analytics lecture ... .I just couldn’t put…it…down.

And what I loved the most about this book is that it wasn’t too much of anything. Yeah, the sisters are hustlers, but Johnson did an excellent job of not making the book just about that. I loved that the characters were well developed, and that they all had real relatable lives, outside of hustling. All in all, this series was a pleasant surprise. I am currently reading the spin off King of the Streets, King of my Heart (review coming soon), so I haven’t had to grapple with putting my favorite sisters down yet, but I know once it really ends…it’s going to be bitter sweet.

Last words: Wanna get emotionally attached to three boss ass sisters? Ready to have a love affair and daydream about sexy thugs, who love LOVE more than the street dream? Ready to escape into world of drama other than your own? Read the book, like right now. Side-note to the last words: have your Rose on deck (iykyk, lol), cause honeyyyy those sex scenes….they won’t owe you not a damn thing — #proceedwithcaution.
