Believe me, I want to be apart of a fandom that a writer wants to write for. And at first, I was pretty excited for the red hood comic! I honestly thought the art was pleasing. But that was my pure mind, huh?
I've read.. other people's thoughts on reddit threads.. youtube videos..
And please. Not on this green earth, present to us.. a new red hood comic spotlighting his sex appeal.
Even if I didn't want it to happen, I caught on pretty quickly that Red Hood and Huntress were gonna be together in this. I'm pretty against it, but i'm against Red Hood being with anyone in general (maybe except Artemis.. or Roy..)
I don't want to judge the writer, i'm sure she writes good stuff. But her past two books, they focused a lot on sexuality, gender? Her book Manhunt was about a post-apocalyptic thriller, a certain virus spreads to those with a certain testosterone level so 2 transgender women are the main characters, attempting to keep their testosterone levels down, and survive in the new world. Her other book, Cuckoo is where 7 queer and transgender teenagers are forced into some conversion camp and soon learn that their instructors are not what they claimed to be. Not to say that I am a fan of these books, I'm not against them. But with her style in writing, I just don't think it's right for Red Hood. With the teasers constantly talking about him being 'sexy' and those arts, i'm worried I might not enjoy this characterisation they're gonna give Red Hood.
Red Hood should be Demisexual.
I personally believe that Red Hood, someone who had only suffered from the people he loved, his mother, his biological mother, Bruce, wouldn't so quickly get into close relationships with many people, much less romantically. He doesn't necessarily crave love but he doesn't trust it. He's reluctant to get attached. And just.. the person he is, won't want to indulge in that stuff. (Okaaaay maybe I am projecting, whatchu gon do about it)
I think he would have trauma bonds. He doesn't do surface-level. He's not a shy wallflower, no, he just doesn't hand out pieces of himself so recklessly anymore. It's not that he doesn't feel Jason Todd feels too much. He does let it out. Through guns and fists, sure. And it's good that he talks it out with people too, if he doesn't.. it would make a dull character, honestly. He's controlled and calculated but he's violent too.
Relationships in DC are a big thing. Batcat, Lois and Superman, Barbara and Dick, Starfire and Dick, they made a lot of money. And I think writers think of Jason's relationships as how they could make profit from it, not what it means to his character.
(am i categorising this properly? thank you so much for reading my lame blog D:)
