Another hateful rant.
No, the internet is not “dead” and no, it’s not just “AI slop”, you’ve just completely forgotten how to surf the web (and yes, such an old-sounding term, but therein lies the problem). Most of you hop between four or five apps (TikTok, IG, Twitter/X, maybe Reddit if you’re feeling intellectual that day) and somehow believing them to represent the whole internet.
If you want to see less “AI slop,” then maybe quit whining and start SURFING THE WEB again. Learn to search. Learn to browse. Dig. Read. Click links. Follow rabbit holes. Visit obscure web archives. Wander aimlessly online like we used to. Stop calling it "dead" just because you've become docile.
You miss that old web? Then act like it’s still there. Because it is. You’re just too busy being fed to go dig it up.

problem is that people are too lazy to actually surf the webs like the good old days! Then you got people with short attention span!
Cyrus?
I do agree with your statement, but dead internet is just when traffic from AI is greater than human traffic, and that's been the case for a while. But yeah, people who complain about this mostly just don't know how to actually surf the internet for fun.

wait yea, i always forget how fun web surfing rly is. i feel like a sim when i websurf >_<

Sure!! If used properly, Tumblr is still one of the best for niche art, aesthetics and long-form blogging, imo B)

Absolutely right. I've been getting stressed out from seeing so much AI-generated garbage on social media.
It's as if we no longer want to think and have our own criteria, just wait to see what positive message an AI generates on your phone.

PointlessSites.com is a great place to start looking for internet knick-knacks. I found an endless canvas where people can draw pixel art, dot-by-dot.

True, literally apps like this get buried by everything else and its so sadddd

unfortunately the dead internet theory is actually true, a study has shown that 50% of the internets users are bots or controlled by bot farms
ok 1) out of how many web users 2) source
dead internet isnt true xP

That stat doesn't actually prove the dead internet theory, it just confirms what anyone paying attention already knew: bots are everywhere, and so is trash content.
The real issue is that people stopped pushing past it. Bots don't stop you from going to obscure blogs, forums, Netlabels, webrings, private trackers, abandoned fansites, or art archives.
It sure is "polluted", but that's not the same as saying the entire internet is fake or dead, and imo, just another excuse to stay passive while acting like you’ve seen it all. Most people barely look anymore.

I think that there are a ton of factors into this that may change the statistic in either direction. Several internet users have grown accustomed to making remarkably short posts or only participating in what takes minimal effort and time to do.

I really agree ! The problem is that today everybody think that Internet is just 10 websites and 5 apps… and don’t really try to find artist artworks ! But if you search, with all the blogs and websites, it gets a lot of incredible artists and all ! Even in instagram it gets really beautiful works !

Any places you recommend to start? I found spacehey a while back and am just now getting into it again but I wanna find a bit more. I have some standard social media, Pinterest, Instagram, and youtube where I like to blog but I'd love to expand my horizons! I do love going on old nostalgic 2010 game websites, like coolmathgames and ggg.
What are some cool stuff you've found online that you wish was more well-known?
I've been on Tumblr for the past few years, and it hasn't changed all that much. At least not as much as Twitter or TikTok after the music.ly rebrand, both of which completely fell off. It's one of the last few places you'll feel like you're in 2014 again. A lot of ppl who were there in the early 2010s are either still there or are coming back.
It doesn't have that much AI, not that I've seen. the only downside is that sometimes there are "Inappropriate" bots, mostly spamming random communities, but there are groups that are clean from those bots, and if you're just vibing on the home page, you're really unlikely to see any 18+ content.

yes yes yes people are so addicted to convenice, its so frustrating how impatient and demanding people are, people dont want to put in the work of doing interesting rabbit holes or weird research they want it spoon fed to them

You are right. The internet is not just about popular social media apps. But we are living i a world were a 19yo can't figure out how to open a folder on a computer. Not to brag but in my coutry we have a computer exam in 12 grade. Its not that hard its mostly office tasks and basic theory. So i was sitting next to this girl and she asked me how to do the asingments.I AM NOT JOKING SHE STRUGGLED OPENING THE EXAM FOLDER :///

I agree. Most people just hop between the same few apps that have made this Ai slop the 'meta' of said apps then get mad when they see it. EXPAND YOUR HORIZONS!! dont just go back and fourth, find new things. look up something random for once or like youve stated, go down that rabbit hole. there's so much internet to explore yet we've limited ourselves to the same 3-4 apps.

today i feel like people are too obsessed with modern social media and feel too icked out or scared from using forums...forums are awesome to use and i love them
i also love getting my shit off of the internet. i love forums, i love torrents, i love consuming media on my own and not relying on corpos for it
shout out to newgrounds for still having a coherent internet art experience that doesnt have algorithms, too

I personally have never viewed the internet as "dead" but the mindset was still similar. This has still completely changed my perspective and I'm now happier because of it.

I think it's cause of our short attention span and short form content
