My Thoughts on The Lighthouse

What a movie! Watched it a week or two ago but I only started to actually use spacehey around 7 hours ago. Firstly, my favourite flavour of movies has to be Robert Pattinson absolutely losing it for two hours straight. Lucky for me, The Lighthouse fulfilled my fantasies of that. His screaming, his delusions, his actions, and his goddamn faaaahrts. It's so gruesome and don't even get me started on the mermaid scene. You know I thought an exorcism was happening at first, then I had to rewind it and absorb what was going on? I heard a lot people online ranting about how Robert deserved an academy award for this and I thought, are you sure? After watching it I can't think of someone who deserves one more than Robert did for it. 

The last scene might be my favourite scene ever, ever made. The distorted screaming was a first time. Never heard something like it, and it was so creepy. The lights. THE LIGHTS!!! I had low hopes for a black and white movie. I never ever liked black and white movies, including Schindler's List. (incredible, meaningful movie but it was late at night when i was watching it and i don't know if the scenes that happened were real or a dream, is that a good thing?) So the whole movie being in black and white wasn't something I was looking forward to but I throughly enjoyed it. In my eyes the most accurate depiction of it must be from Diem Media,

“The central theme in my eyes is isolation and its effects on masculinity. The lighthouse itself is a massive phallic symbol. Being away from women is threatening to them and causing the slow descent into weird mermaid p*ssy nightmares. Also, there is this clear homoerotic tension between the two main characters as they almost kiss but must regain their masculinity by fighting each other.”

That pretty much sums it up, yeah. I was a big big fan of the cinematography here. Especially it being a square-ish size, definitely unique. Out of everything my most favourite thing in this movie were their accents and Robert Pattinson's spirals.
