Nintendo Switch 2 - First 2 weeks

I picked up the Nintendo Switch 2 day 1. Here is what I think ^_^

I was lucky enough to get the Switch 2 from my boyfriend <3

Going into this new system, I was very hopeful Nintendo would have improved on some of the things I had issues with on the original Switch. I do not like the minimalistic UI, not being able to message my friends, and the overall lack of features that you would expect from a modern console. Sadly, none of these things were fixed on the Switch 2.
The UI looks 99% the same, which takes away the 'new console' feel that I got with the PS5. I had the same feelings toward the Xbox Series X, since that UI is also identical to their previous-gen system. A fun and functional UI seems to be a lost art in modern times.

Switch 1 games play a lot better on Switch 2.
This was something I was very relieved to learn when I tried some of my old favorites. The long load times and unstable frame rates are mostly fixed on the new system, and that breathes new life into some games. This is also great because there aren’t many Switch 2 games out right now that interest me.
Game key cards feel like a scam!
Third-party games often suffer from what some people call 'the Switch tax,' which basically means that you have to pay more than what a game normally costs on other platforms just to be able to play it on Nintendo hardware. I used to be okay with this since I buy my games physically, and having the game on a cart or disc is something I'm willing to pay more for.
With Switch 2, it seems like you still have to pay more—but without the benefit of having the full game on the cart. Also, the Nintendo versions don’t offer achievements/trophies and will most likely have worse online features... great. I was hoping the Switch 2 would be my main platform to play games on, but now I’m not so sure I’ll make that jump.
Mario Kart World is great, but...
It's not worth the high price. I didn’t get the bundle, since as I stated earlier, I like to collect physical media. This new entry feels a bit slow considering I’ve been so used to racing in 200cc; however, you do feel like you’re going fast when pulling off some of the crazy tricks and shortcuts.
The online feels the same as before—clunky to join friends, since one of you needs to already be in a lobby for the other to join. There’s no party-up function, which I had hoped for. It’s a copy-paste from Mario Kart 8's online.
I also noticed that lobbies don’t fill up anymore. I’m sure there are enough players, but the game wants to match you with players of similar rank, so most races aren’t 24 players. Misc stats are removed, which made me sad since I love seeing random stats like how many races I’ve done or how many tricks I’ve pulled off—you sadly can’t check that here.
The open world is fun and there are things to do, but the unlockables are just stickers that you can’t really do anything with. Feels like a bit of a time-waster. The unlockable costumes were something I was hyped about, but you’ll quickly learn that most characters only have a few (some none at all). For the premium price we’re paying, I had hoped for a lot more.
Overall, the Switch 2 feels like a 'Switch Pro'.
The system itself feels very premium and less ‘tacky’ than the original Switch. It’s big, sleek, and feels powerful. But the UI and features are about the same. Sure, we have 'game chat'—which I’ve used exactly 0 times. I don’t like voice chatting with strangers, but I do love being able to text my friends when I want them to hop on a game, which is still not a feature on Nintendo consoles.
I really miss the Wii U days, where we had Miiverse. This system could have really used something like that.

Overall, I like the system, but it's not one I'd recommend anyone run out and buy right away.
Wait until there are more games you really want to play on it!

im honestly so exited to finally be opening mine (got it on release day but its a bday gift) so i can compare it to my other nintendo consoles!

Also tbh i think the quality of the switch 2 is different depending on if youre like...looking for issues instead of just enjoying it. Like with my normal switch the only problem that ever cam to me was the joycon drift and that the back stand just...clips out easily.

Tho i do agree that the older games just had a bit more story.

I don't know what you mean by misc stats, but I know there is quite a bit of hidden details in kart combos despite being one dimensional when added up for the most part. I thought it would be a bit more complex than Ring Racers' two dimensional stats system, but it's not super important for me personally. I don't really mind running Nabbit+Baby Blooper to keep optimal play simple.

Pretty much the same conclusion I had about the system for the most part. It's only really worth it for press, party hosts, and others with some special reasons to get it.

Oh and give Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers a shot. It's the perfect way to make the value of the system even more confusing.

Misc stands for miscellaneous, and those are the stats that showed you how many races you've done, how many wins, how many tricks etc.. I kinda love going back looking at those in other games and previous mario kart games had it. It's a small thing but for me it's like them not having any 'VR rating' in online mode x)

Anyway, thank you so much for reading and commenting!! Made me so excited :D

I think I remembered that I needed to check stats at some point because of the milestone sticker rewards. I forgot to do that up until you informed me of a lack of a stats menu. Even though you can get rough stats via the milestone rewards, it's defiantly not a good replacement.
