Was Kudos a MySpace thing I can't remember, but what is the purpose of kudos?
Honestly a key focus on some of the original feature set by MySpace that does not delve into the Facebook, Reddit, Twitter territory makes more sense.
The main draw of this entire set is the nostalgia. The modernization of certain features really depends on how the community perceives if the nostalgia is being upheld properly or the entire point is being missed entirely, ala Final Fantasy 7 Remake vs. Shenmue.

One of the more interesting things I've noticed when looking at the users here is that quite a lot of them probably weren't around when MySpace was still going strong (because who would be lying about their age on the 'net…).
So this is nostalgia for something you've never experiences -- a thing that seems to get more and more common, sometimes harmless, sometimes quite dangerous.
But hey, better vaporwave than vaporware…

@mxp It's a slippery slope of development. Especially during the "momentum" phase of a product's lifecycle.
Add all the features MySpace had, then people start to remember why it got bad, don't add them, you get where I'm going. This baby has to be MySpace and not MySpace all at the same time (Final Fantasy 7 Remake).
Phone and Browser-based notifications are an extremely bad manipulative practice. Let me log in if I actually care about the product and notify me within the space. That's how we got shit like targeted ads.

Yup... I've definitely been feeling that tension!
i.e., would notifications on your phone be a bridge too far? on one hand I want to know as soon as someone friends me or comments, but it also takes me back to when you actually had to check all the time to find out
maybe it would be good if there were a voting system somewhere for new/updated features with a discussion!
If I rack my brain I vaguely remember kudos in the original... but don't remember ever looking at top blogs lol. atm it's kinda nice because otherwise it's hard to find people without the search feature built out, or groups, etc.

I'm worried the posts with the more kudos will always be in the "top entries", and so will get even more kudos. I love the "only the author can see how many kudos the post have" idea :)

meh!!
would be cooler if the kudos only showed up for the person who gets them. they do have a toxic dimension to them, and a detrimental effect on peoples openness to search stuff, as opposed to waiting to be spoonfed the top posts

I remember kudos but it could be the Mandela effect.
I wonder if it will lead to an interaction neglect.
It is nice to see your work has been respectedly checked,
but will least resistance interchange be begotten by this aspect?

Lol I know I've been given out a few kudos trying to understand if there is a bigger purpose in the works.
Overall this is An's baby, so we'll see what comes from it, but having open discussions to create a more "community-centric" social platform is better than letting corporate overloads dictate how we socialize with each other.

It felt very meta to give you kudos for this post.
But you’re right, all these metrics of quantification were not really present with myspace, I don’t think, apart from maybe seeing how many friends someone had ...
