I recently took an essay on hardware architecture in college, and I chose a topic about supercomputers.
It was interesting to study the history of supercomputers, how people came from Mflops(10^6 FLOPS (floating point operations per second)) to exaFLOPS (10^18 FLOPS) and the fact that, for example, one frontier supercomputer uses 21 MW, which is comparable to a small city.
An interesting fact is that what was considered a supercomputer in the 90s is now not comparable to an ordinary phone.
Supercomputers are used to model the climate and the early universe, as well as to train neural networks and decode dna. Science would not be happy without supercomputers. All supercomputers use Linux, sometimes its special distributions for this particular supercomputer, its hardware.
Well, another interesting fact is that Deep Blue is the first supercomputer that defeated a human in chess.
Sorry for mistakes. English is not my native language, so I used an online translator.
