My University Doesn't Care About Students, So I'm Transferring (...maybe, I'm undecided)

My current university is pissing me the hell off!! I'm an incoming third-year/junior and just found out a week or two before finishing my second year that my university doesn't prioritize housing for upperclassmen. How did I find this out? I got put on the housing waitlist despite applying for housing the morning the application opened! At first, I figured my seniority as well as the residential life department saying my application was "prioritized" would mean I would actually be prioritized for housing and it wouldn't be long before I could select which dorm I want to live in, right?

WRONG!!!

Instead, I emailed them MULTIPLE TIMES since getting put on the waitlist and haven't heard anything other than essentially, "We'll get to you when/if we get to you. In the meantime, check out some off-campus apartments to rent!!" The issue is, I'm strictly at my university because of scholarships and financial aid. WTF makes them think I can afford an apartment??? In THIS economy??? Mind y'all, my university offers on-campus apartments and suites that my financial aid and scholarships would cover. The problem? My university won't let you apply for the apartments if you're not applying with a group! While other universities might just plop you in with another pre-existing group to fill space, my university doesn't! Which is not only the dumbest thing I've ever heard of, but is also a WASTE OF SPACE and leaves solo upperclassmen with no other choice than to: A - Commute, or B - Rent an off-campus apartment.

With that being said, this event has really caused me to consider my options. I like the university I go to, but I haven't made a single friend here and despite it being a large university I get RIDICULOUSLY lonely and there isn't much to do if you don't have friends! I know having community isn't everything in terms of picking schools (which is why I picked the one I go to now, as it's ranked pretty high and it would look great on resumes and grad school applications) but if I'm not having a good time, AND I won't have access to housing, AND I could receive the same, if not a better Psychology education at another university, why TF would I not consider transferring?

I already have another school picked out and I sent my transcript over to see if my credits would transfer well, and honestly, I'm hoping they do. When I was deciding what university to commit to, it was between my current one and the one I'm considering transferring to, so I already know I'd love this other university if push comes to shove. It's a significantly smaller school, so I know I'd be guaranteed housing and be able to either dorm with other transfer students or live in a single dorm (and the dorms are hella nice compared to my current university, and since I'll be a transfer and an upperclassmen I'll immediately be able to receive the best dorm options). Also, smaller school means smaller class sizes which not only means more 1-on-1 connections with professors, but also more of a chance of making friends. Not to mention, it's located really close to the beach (and as a water sign that really excites me, lol). It's also roughly the same distance away from home as my current university, and I'd actually be able to take a car there since there's less students (meaning more places to park), parking is completely free (whereas parking at my current university can run you an additional $200+ a semester), and the drive is pretty calm and straight-forward.

I have a LOT to consider, but overall I think rejection is redirection, so if I need to transfer I'll take it as a sign that it was needed to get me where I need to go. :)
