Went to see 28 years later at the theater today. **SPOILERS**

So, I'm already a huge fan of the two previous entries in this trilogy. And I went to see 28 Years Later in the theaters w/one of my good friends. And I just thought the direction they took the plot was... interesting. I want to start off by mentioning the things I really loved abt the film. I love that they chose to start the film at the first couple days of the apocalypse to show how different people reacted to the virus, whether realizing the actual danger of the virus or treating it as a holy judgement as it seems realistic to do that. Then later showing how people have adapted to live in the quarantine zone by developing almost Amish-like survival economy groups and creating whole cultures and beliefs/rituals. I LOVED the cinematography in this movie; there are many moments throughout the movie where a zombie gets hit w an arrow and it almost stops time and spins around the infected to show the brutality of the moment which I thought was the coolest thing. There are many shots of the empty British landscape that really show off the decay/emptiness of the area. Everything is overgrown and really well decorated. Not to mention the whole movie was filmed with a assortment of iPhone 11s to create a "vintage" or "low quality look," I thought this was neat as the first movie, 28 days later, did the same thing using early digital cameras to create a gritty, almost home video look. The action/rapid cam shots in 28YL are also fantastic looking, it really shows the frantic and rabid nature of how the infected move/squirm. The violence in this movie is also top notch. Most of this movie features bows and arrows rather than firearms or blunt/blade weapons which fits for it being the UK; the use of primitive weaponry my seem like a deterrent but I think it really helps the world building and elevates the direness of the situation. The acting is also very great and the young child actor who is the star of the film did an amazing job. The actors for the zombies were also VERY good at their job. Now, the bad..........(This part is where it gets real spoilery.) As much as I like the plot it seems very odd after watching the rest of the movies. They retcon soooooooo many aspects of 28 weeks later. And idk if it was because people didn't like the movie or what, but they COMPLETELY throw away some aspects of that plot. 1. The ending of 28 weeks later features a shot where the zombies are running into France. This is never brought up again. 2. 28 weeks later has the implication that some people can become carriers of the virus but not turn into a zombie allowing them to basically survive while having the virus, this is scraped and never mentioned again. 3. The boy from the opening scene of 28YL doesn't reappear until the very end where he shows up and they have a almost comical scene him and a gang of sorts (all waring perfectly clean and colorful adidas track suits) performing almost circus like tricks and killing zombies, while this part is pretty cool I felt it was a little goofy considering the tone of the rest of the film. 4. The zombies have different variants like L4D2? I understand that for this to not just be "another zombie film" they need to differentiate themselves, but I found the choices a little odd. This part is a little knit picky in my opinion, but I felt that the idea that some zombies just turn into the boomers from L4D2 is a little strange considering that others just don't. It is never mentioned why this occurs. Also, the fast zombies start to group up in packs, not the craziest thing, right? But they are led by a ringleader zombie that is almost 7ft tall and is smarter than the rest. This is actually used pretty effectively however as they do explain why they become like this. But they felt the need to include, in CGI post effects btw, that he needed a 7incher as well, really? Did we NEED to see that? 5. Random birthing scene? This is such an odd part of the movie that just makes no sense. In the movie, there is a scene where a baby gets delivered BY AN INFECTED and just isn't infected. I'm sorry but am I going nuts? The virus in the first movie is implied to spread through blood, not even a drop is needed to infect someone; this baby comes out covered and just isn't infected despite being COVERED. Then they just do nothing with this plot point. I hope they at least expand on this in the next movie to explain it. Side note, there is a part of the film where the main characters are in a gas station getting swarmed by infected and it's filled with built up gas vapors, this vapor ignites and kills all the infect yet the main characters don't get burned at all. ------------Overall, I did really enjoy the movie, and I felt it was really good and well made, a little too different from the rest of the movies for my taste but as its own film I'd say it was good. It's not the worst thing they could've done with the IP that's for sure. At the end of the day, it's still worth seeing and not a bad film at all. The script and writing are amazing, and the world building is excellent, yet I admit I may be biased as 28DL was one of my favorite movies of all time. Overall, I give this movie an 8/10.
