I finally listened to the other two Lickerish Quartet EPs

I'm continuing my journey down the Jellyfish side/solo project world, and I finally sat down to listen to the other two Lickerish Quartet EPs. (I listened to the first one on my last album review blog entry). Which, speaking of the first EP, the two guitar ballads I said were kinda meh have been growing on me lately :o). I still think the other two songs are better though. But anyway, onto the reviews...

THREESOME, VOL. 2 (2021)

This one was definitely more energetic than Vol. 1, which I absolutely dig LOL. It opens with "Do You Feel Better?" which is a fine song but it's probably my least favorite of the bunch, not much to say.

"Sovereignty Blues" sounds like a lost Spilt Milk-era Jellyfish song but with modern production. Which made me realize that if Jellyfish had come out in the modern era with modern production I probably wouldn't like them /_ \ don't get me wrong I did like this song, but I think it would sound better if it had been made 30 years ago LOL.

"The Dream That Took Me Over" is a proper modern pop song, I feel like any of the new pop stars of our generation could sing it and it wouldn't feel super out of place. I dig it, honestly!

"Snollygoster Goon" is my favorite of this batch. It's so energetic, power pop in its purest form I think. It makes me want to jump and thrash around!!

I give it a 3.5/5!!

THREESOME, VOL. 3 (2022)

"Fortunately" is the opening track of this EP and it's my favorite!! I like the lyrics. The "Dear God" of the 2020s? LOL. This one also sounds like a lost Jellyfish song. It's like if you put "Joining a Fanclub", "The Ghost at Number One" and "New Mistake" in a blender, this is what would come out. I don't say it as a bad thing, I mean they made the Jellyfish songs, it's inevitable that they will sound similar sometimes. I'm just pointing it out LOL! It's really catchy.

"New Days" has a super groovy bassline that I love and beautiful harmonies. Plus the bridge is also gooooorgeous!! "You All Alone" is probably my least favorite of this EP, and honestly... Probably my least favorite track by them overall, it's just kind of whatever... However, I LOVEEEED the trumpet at the end, I'm a sucker for a trumpet in a pop song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So in a way, the song is worth it just for that trumpet.

"In The Meantime" is admittedly also kind of meh but I like it. This was written in quarantine and it shows LOL.

Hmmm, I think I'm giving it a 2/5  (〜 ̄▽ ̄)〜

So my overall ranking would be Vol. 2, Vol. 1, and then Vol. 3. I can now say I've listened to the entirety of another Jellyfish side project!
