Anomalocaris

The Anomalocaris was alive during the Cambrian period about 500 million years ago and were the first apex predator they were first believed to hunt trilobites, but recent research has showed they were more likely hunted soft bodied prey they were part of an extinct order Radiodonta which was defined by their distinct frontal appendages which were used for a variety of things the Anomalocaris's appendages had trident like spines which were used to catch prey the appendages were multisegmented the features suggest they were an agile nektonic predator proving they most likely hunted soft bodied prey they were also very graceful and fast swimmers it had numerous swimming appendages that allowed it to swim easily and propel itself forward to catch prey they also had compound eyes with 16000 individual lenses providing it with a 360 degree feild of veiw with acute vision possibly better than modern day arthropods
