The Reality Kids Saw:
They turned on the TV and saw Snoop Dogg, a celebrated, rich, and
successful superstar, whose entire brand was built on marijuana. They
went to the movies and saw stoner comedies where the characters were
funny and likable. They may have known an older sibling, a cousin, or
even a parent who smoked pot and was still a functional, normal person. D.A.R.E. tells a 5th grader that marijuana will ruin their life and is just as bad as crack or meth. A few years later, that kid is a teenager and sees that marijuana is clearly not as destructive as crack or meth. They see people using it casually without their lives falling apart. The teenager concludes: "D.A.R.E. lied to me about pot." The devastating next thought is: "If they lied about pot, they were probably lying about everything else, too."
Why D.A.R.E. is Bullshit and doesn't work and didn't understand children as well
