Logbook Episode 33 Out Now!

Week number 33 of consistent weekly video blogs! We have arrived at rather an interesting week, certainly of slightly more interest than the last, and I hope this episode proves that!

This week's Logbook Radio choice: 'The World Is Waiting For The Sunrise' by Les Paul and Mary Ford (1953)

I awoke on Monday morning to the reminder that I had switched out my old glasses for the new ones which arrived the previous day, awaiting me on my bedside table. I put them on, and though it took the better part of two days to get used to the initial fisheye effect you get with new spectacles, I found myself enjoying the style of the ones I had picked out. I'm looking forward to wearing the shaded versions when I'm on holiday next week! Mum was also kind enough to cut my hair for me, and we listened to lots of Wings songs together. My new haircut is a lot more sensible and I like it! It'll certainly be less of a pain to wash, so that's good! I also reflected on 2023's Summer vlogs, which I was doing exactly two years ago! I would say that my vlog style has vastly improved since those days, and so has my editing! In addition, I found the time to record a couple of synthesiser tracks for on top of the pre-recorded drums for 'Bootbreaker', the Oddpulse song.

I met with my friend Ellie to hang around in town for the day. We first grabbed some Greggs lunch and then chatted for a while about live shows and how tours work. If at any point, any of our musical acts "make it" so to speak, we've all pretty much agreed to let each other be roadies and emotional supports if the act ever went on tour! It's a fun little promise for a fun little dream, but you never know! Anything is possible, and if it happened, it would be the greatest blessing! Ellie and I hung around in Hopkinson's again, and took a pretty iconic vintage mirror selfie. Sifted through some vinyl boxes, wore some funny hats and had a bit of a laugh! I even managed to run some serious errands - bought a birthday card and Father's Day card for my dad (both days are irritatingly close together), as well as some Blu-Rays of the John Carpenter films we haven't had the chance to see yet (and of course a high-definition pressing of The Fog, a film we have only ever known a really low-quality recording of from our TV box). Overall, a very good day!

Wednesday was yet again another Tally-Ho records day, Lee was borrowing the facilities yet again to record more for his album project. I'm hoping that at some point, he begins recording in the studios, because I'm starting to get a little bit creatively and critically tired. I'm certainly ready for my holiday, that's for sure! I've begun applying to lots more jobs by writing emails in to certain companies around town, which has certainly helped me to gain more confidence in my email formalities. I've been keeping a list of my applications the old fashioned way - on paper! I organised a sheet of lined paper into rows for application methods, job titles, company names and (with the help of a provided key) a results box. I'm aiming to have some kind of regular position by the time I move into the flat with Lauren in September.

On Thursday, as well as it being my dad's birthday (happy birthday, Dad!), I met with Ellie, Lauren and Sabi to hang around in town. I think the likelihood of the third year is that us four are most likely to get a house together. I think that was proved today as we wandered around John Lewis looking at bedding and pillows and all sorts. Despite the rain of the day, we made the most of each other's company and talked about the future, which is something you can only really do properly with your friends. I really enjoyed the day, and felt productive by the end of it, having recorded the Last Week On The Logbook and Logbook Radio sections very efficiently, leaving me plenty of time to get a good night's rest ready for the mayhem that the next day was to give me.

After meeting Lee at our usual spot, we made our way to the bus stops to catch a ride to Jessie's village, which is where we met up and walked to his house. Today was going to be a Celestine recording day. Jessie's PC had completely given up on life a few nights before, which is why we were meeting. Initially, it was to be just Jessie and Lee, but they needed to use my laptop to record parts for the next Celestine single. The guitar and keys recordings were relatively normal, just a quick plug in and play. However, the recording of the vocal tracks was a whole different story. We made our way down to the block of flats' car parking bay, where Jessie's car sat dormant. He opened the car door, and said that this was where we would be recording vocals. As impractical as it sounded, it worked rather well for saying that our setup was a pop filter attached to the front seat, an SM57 condenser microphone which needed to be held using both hands while recording (casting some rather comical images from the outside) and an audio interface connected to my laptop in the front seat. The bit that really made the day difficult was the heat. I can't remember numbers, but I can remember feeling incredibly warm, especially when having to switch tracks from inside the car. When all fifteen-or-so takes were done and dusted, myself and Lee headed home, stopping at One Below on the way back, for a well deserved cold drink.

Over the weekend, as well as celebrating the wonderful human being that is my dad on Father's Day, I met up with Lauren to help her create a scrapbook for her own dad. As well as grabbing lunch earlier in the day, we poked around some of our favourite shops, including Whittard, a fancy hot drink store, where you can buy ground coffee by the pound and test all the different new flavours of hot chocolate (some of which are practically wrenching your teeth off, they're so sweet). I bought my dad some hazelnut-flavoured coffee for his cafetière, just one of several things my sister and I contributed for what we called the 'Father's Day prize pot', effectively just a joint gift-buying alliance between the two of us (because let's face it - who doesn't struggle with buying gifts for people?). The rest of my Saturday was spent editing the existing vlog footage and getting myself as prepared as possible for packing for my holiday.

I'm looking forward to my trip to Gran Canaria now! Which reminds me! The Logbook, and indeed, this written blog, will not be updated till June 28th, as I will be away on what would have been the upload date! I hope you won't miss me TOO much! Lots of love to you all as always, and thank you for supporting this series! See you at some point in the next few weeks!

Thanks for reading! <3
