I need inspiration, please call in!

The Gaping Mouth - Lowertown

I know that I've mentioned when speaking to some of you before in private, but in my spare time, I used to run tabletop roleplay campaigns for my friends, mostly dungeons and dragons. But now, I'd like to ask for your help in getting some inspiration for my next GURPS campaign. Those of you who have lived a lot of their life in small town america (or anywhere really), I'd like to hear about what it was like for you.

I wanted to write a surreal mystery-drama horror campaign focusing on the goods and bads of life in a small town in rural Washington state in the year 2000. Obviously a lot of inspiration comes from twin peaks and silent hill, they're my darling franchises. A lot of the story will revolve around the players who have newly moved to the central small town (Lowertown) uncovering the secrets and fermented ill will of the townsfolk, made material by their collective grief and love.

I want to represent the inner struggles of the townsfolk through allegorical horrors and supernatural manifestations, eventually evolving into a completely flipped "other" world for my players to explore. The main themes will be exploring the feelings of suffocation and isolation one feels when they're "stranded" in a nowhere town, the inner conflict between staying with the familiar safe yet dull life and the inner flame burning to escape, to take your own first breath for yourself.

Now what I want from you, dear reader, is for you to tell me about you're own interesting experiences growing up in places away from major cities (on this blog post or in DMs, whichever you're most comfortable with). I want to hear about your local gossip, the notable figures or scandals in your local history or politics, corruption, urban legends, ghost stories, etc.

I'd even love to just hear monster or supernatural event suggestions. I know I have a bunch of freaky people added on here, so please indulge me, I know you'll have something interesting to say.
