Dazai is genuinely, as I've said before, so fascinating to me. Other then me being literally obsessed with him, he's just genuinely a complex, labyrinth of a character. Whether it be the complicated backstory, the way he mask's his real emotion, or even down to his small movements.
The way he preferably grabs thing's with his fingertips, the way he carries himself - I can't help but admire such a charted course for himself. He plan's as much as he possibly can, he prepares for every situation, it's nothing less or more than admirable to me. Not to mention his relationship with Chuuya, Odasaku, and Ango is also complex.
You can tell Dazai cares about all three, even if he hides his real emotion from Chuuya. While chuuya unfortunately believes that Dazai can never change from the monstrous mafia executive he was. Also mentioning Dazai's obvious $H.
"Well he doesn't like pain" Yeah. But Cvtt!n9 isn't the only way you can harm yourself. Dazai canonically drinks himself to pain, he canonically starves himself, he literally constantly tries to off himself even if it's apart of his complex "mask," it's so stupid to believe he wouldn't harm himself because he doesn't like pain
He's just so...interesting to me. The way he even breathes fascinates me. I can't help but just admire, admire, and admire his character.
DAMN I yap so much lol T-T hope u enjoyed :D

I agree that he is a fascinating character, but I'd like to see where you're coming from for a few things you said here. After all his character is very much up to interpretation, even while having a core (Kurakane you're so real for this). I don't think dazai being a former mafia executive is that central to his character as it served more as a means to an end for him, although the port mafia's environment (and especially mori) were actively nurturing the already existing seeds of a transactional worldview in him ever since he joined at the age of 14. And I think Chuuya has been aware of that worldview of his for quite a while. He has seen the work dazai puts towards changing for the better too. Would he trust something as risky as corruption being handled by someone he perceives as a cruel, natural mafioso, incapable of change? If Dazai were that kind of a person, someday he'd start treating chuuya as a disposable number too. Except he has always done the exact opposite by putting his own trust in chuuya, even during his time as a mafioso (take Fyodor for comparison, someone who is also manipulative but has no trust in anyone around him). That indicates a good amount of respect, and Chuuya seems to have noticed that. Also, his current suicidality does seem at least partially genuine. Maybe I'm projecting, but that specific state of mind can absolutely linger and shift to serve various, different purposes after a period of it being all-consuming (like before meeting chuuya and fighting rimbaud, the severity of his suicidality was highest around that time). That's all I slightly disagree with, but I'd also like to know where it was implied or stated that Dazai starves himself. Might've slipped out of my sight lol. As someone with an ed I'd find that really interesting for a character like him. Anyways, apologies for the ridiculously long comment. Love talking about Dazai's pathetic ass.
Lol what I intended to get across was that Chuuya doesn't think Dazai can change into the good man Oda wanted him to be. Not that Chuuya thought he was purely a cruel, unforgiving mafioso. I think I just worded it poorly lol.
Also, in the first few episodes, Dazai mentions that he hasn't eaten in days, then doesn't eat anything throughout the restaurant scene. I may have remembered things wrong, but we don't see him eat a lot throughout the rest of the series. Chuuya visibly has, in my personal opinion, respect for Dazai. Even if he sees Dazai's worldview, I think he just doesn't think someone can redeem their actions of that severity.
Please understand what I mean lol T-T
Also same, I love analyzing Dazai :3

Ah, I get what you mean now. Reminds me of how in dead apple Dazai received a nice, well-deserved punch from Chuuya for treating the deaths of fellow executives as mere open spots for the position. Also I just checked the first manga chapter to see the food part (was too lazy for the anime) and damn, he really only had a cup in front of him at the restaurant after not eating for days. Thanks for reminding, I totally forgot about that little detail lmao
