You know how sometimes, you might think something that is negative? Did you know you didn’t have to say it??
This BRAND NEW cool invention called “keeping our opinions to ourselves!” See something you don’t like that is utterly harmless? Keep it to yourself!!
That girl’s dress is ugly? Keep it to yourself!
Some kids are being cringe? Mind your business!!
This dude is annoying? Move on!!!
If something upsets you, you can say alllllll the mean stuff you want in a journal! In your head! In your notes app! To your wall! You don’t need to share all your thoughts and opinions with everyone all the time!
Friendly reminder that IF you share your opinion out loud then people are going to REACT to said opinion. Not all reactions are going to be good OR respectful, that is outside of your control. You know what’s in your control? Not sharing your opinion!
Practice these fun reflective questions:
Are they harming anyone?
Are they harming themselves?
Does this affect me in anyway?
Do I have something kind to say?
You can use this simple exercise to see if your opinion is warranted or kind! It might be hard to start, but practicing such skills helps your emotional intelligence grow, and who doesn’t like growth!
Thank you for reading, and may we all practice kindness and thoughtfulness together!

I'm second-thinking everything I've written on my blog. No, not the SpaceHey one, the one on my PERSONAL WEB SITE. But you know, to be brutally honest, sometimes I just want to show everyone my HONEST image so I don't give people the wrong impression.

To add to this discussion, if you're (yes, you reading right now!) the kind of person who worries about being an asshole because of any mean thoughts you have popping off, keep in mind that these two things matter a lot more than the initial mean thought:
1) What you do with/about the mean thought (aka, what this post is literally about)
and
2) Your reaction to the thought is arguably a lot more important than the first mean thought.
"Ugh, I hate actually hate him and his stupid face", followed by, "Damn, that's mean, what's my problem?" says a lot more about how you feel about stuff than the immediate first thought.
Additionally, if you're the kind of person who is just a straight up hater and will stew in all the specifics, fair enough, just be discerning with how you siphon it out of your system <3

couldn't agree more :D i live try to live by this principle. if it adds nothing to the conservation and its just overly negative, just don't say it!

Sadly, people would run their mouths no matter what.
Petty, snarky beings... it's best if you don't react to them, and it could be, well, intentionally doing so to get a rise out of you.
As the Internet saying: Don't take the bait

How much does kindness really mean in the context of social media though?

THIS!! EXACTLY!!!! a big part of the reason the social media websites that are deemed more "cringy" are in actuality pretty peaceful spaces is because people on those websites actually remember that constructive criticism is meant to be CONSTRUCTIVE, not just criticism, and when someone bothers them they know what a block button is and how to use it. meanwhile, larger platforms like tiktok or instagram are known to be FILLED with ruthless bullying at this point, because not fitting the "established norm" on those sites is a crime 3
