There is a lot of slang that are created (or at least popularized) over the past years like "based", "locked in", "yap", and many others. I almost never use them except ironically, or if I can't think of an alternative at all.
I don't know why. It could have to do with me being a fluent speaker or getting skeptical if a slang is for a specific community (like AAVE).
I also never use terms like "cringe" (again, except ironically or when I'm giving an example), because I think it's harmful.
I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't do that, and I guess that's okay?
who is this project diva? *shows an image of luka*

talk how you want but based has been slang for like 15 years and cringe is just a word
Eh.
Every term started as... just a term. Then it gets popularized for a reason or another.
I have never seen both terms until middle to late 2010s. Maybe later than that (like "based").
For "cringe" at least, I remember checking a dictionary page for the term, and seeing that the meaning of it was completely different two decades ago or so. Maybe it's incorrect, but I'm just saying.

cringe has been used in its modern sense since at least the 70s, based has been used since the early 2010s when it was popularized by lil b
