why i hate the “baby bat” term

also i put it in this category but i dont think it fits here idk sorry

if u dont know the meaning, baby bat is a term used in the gotic subculture for people that are recently becoming goth, learning about the music and how to be part of the subculture, and i think there is the problem with it, you dont “learn how to be goth”, you dont have to listen to goth music all time or dress always black to be one, ur goth if u fw the music, literature, philosophy, arquitecture and aesthetic, but liking one of these areas more than others do not make u less goth (i hope u get what i mean)

theres no levels for being goth; baby bat, elder goth, etc are just labels that usually fit into the stereotype or just the trad goth side (obviusly not shaming i love that scene)

what i want to say is that ur not less goth if u identify more with one of the ramifications that are less umm classic, such as cybergoth, whimsy goth… mostly cuz theres no such thing as goth levels or smth

i belive u can be a casual listener of goth music, a lover of goth literature and fw all the other areas or love goth music and be a casual reader of the literature, cause is not just music guys, im not saying u can just completely ignore it, but u dont have to listen to it the whole time if u dont want to

literature and romanticism had and still have a huuge influence on the goth movement

also stop saying listening to siousxie and the banshees, bauhaus o the cure makes u poser like lol man bfr

i think this is veeery influenced by the stereotype and objectification of the goth subculture

we dont have to be copypaste of eachother, and definitely dont need to be some tryhard underground wannabes either, just be urself man

u dont adjust urself into a subculture, ur part of it because u identify with it

ooo to finish, the baby bat term would be better if it was used for someone young thats into the subculture, u mind find it stupid is valid
