Mads Dittmann Mikkelsen, actor born 22 November 1965, Østerbro district, Copenhagen, Denmark. His older brother is Lars Mikkelsen. He is currently 59 (today: 6/12/25). He was raised in Nørrebro. Trained in gymnastics at school, played handball. He studied at Gothenburg's Balettakademien, became fluent in Swedish. Worked as a professional dancer nearly a decade, a move sparked by a school musical invitation. He performed in musicals like La Cage aux Folles, blending acrobatics and storytelling. At around age 30, shifted to drama, studied at Århus Theatre School in 1996. In his rise in Danish cinema, he debuted in Pusher (1996) as Tonny, a role he reprised in Pusher II (2004), earning him a Best Actor Bodil Award in 2005. He also starred in "Rejseholdet" (Unit One) TV series (2000 - 2004), "Open Hearts" (2002), "The Green Butchers" (2003), "Adam's Apples" (2005) and "After The Wedding" (2006). In international fame, however, he debuted as the menacing Le Chiffre in James Bond, his U.S. breakthrough. His Hollywood roles were in "Clash of the Titans" (2010), "Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky" (2008) and "A Royal Affair" (2012). He won Best Actor for "The Hunt" (2012), and starred in "Doctor Strange" (2016), "Rouge One" (2016), "Another Round" (Oscar-winning 2020), "Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore" (2022), "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" (2023) and "The Promised Land" (2023). He starred in "Hannibal", playing as Hannibal Lecter himself, widely acclaiming and cementing global fame. He also voiced and performance captured Cliff Unger in "Death Stranding" (2019). He's married to a wedding choreographer, Hanne Jacobsen. They've been together since 1987, and married in 2000 (should've been me...). They have two children, Viola and Carl. He primarily lives in Copenhagen; also resides in Mallorca and spent time in Toronto while filming "Hannibal. His daughter, Viola, announced expecting in early 2023—making him a grandfather for the first time. He won Bodil Best Actor for "Pusher II" (2005), Cannes Best Actor for "The Hunt" (2012) and an Oscar nomination and BAFTA attention for "Another Round". He also won Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog (Denmark, 2010), and Knight of the French Ordre des Arts et Lettres (2016). He received a career achievement award at the Marrakech Film Festival in 2023.
