today i was at the pool and i heard a little girl saying how she likes swimming in lakes cuz theres no sharks that could eat her. i know that shes a little kid and has reason to be scared of an animal that is stereotypically perceived as dangerous. but just wanted to talk about sharks i guess; in america there is about one shark related death every two years. while dogs are responsible for nearly 43 deaths nationwide. about 5500 people die from choking and about 500 people die from allergic reactions per year. so basically sharks aren't as dangerous as people may think. also our shark population is dramatically decreasing due to overfishing, climate change, habitat loss, and costal development. you might've seen clips on social media or nature documentaries of sharks without fins this is called shark finning; when people cut the fins off sharks and throw the shark back into the sea without their fins which means the shark can't swim thus they cant move oxygen through their gills, this eventually suffocates them. this is another reason for shark numbers decreasing, shark finning is illegal in many countries but is still a very real issue. the shark population has decreased by nearly 75% since 1970.
sharks aren't dangerous!!!
