dubito ergo cogito ergo sum

why is it always quoted as "i think therefore i am" when the original french "je pense, donc je suis" could also be translated as "i am thinking, therefore i am" as descartes statement first relies on doubting all that can be doubted, which includes past memories, as those can be falsified/simulated ??
