August in this context means like impressive and well respected.
So august taste would mean the prince's design was grand and important while being "eccentric" and strange.
But yh august is a goofy ahh word to use icl lol

Mutant.
I have his complete works in one book, in the introduction his work is described as 'sounding beautiful but hard to understand' (i don't remember the exact wording) as if that's part of the art. I just always thought that was funny
