its been a while since i posted my last review, but i got distracted by reading the sequel for this book, hehe. i forgot about this stuff :p
but anyways, this book was really good! one of the best i've read this year, maybe second place to 'bunny'.
it felt like a blend between howl's moving castle and a western movie, which was really fun! the book was about this girl trying to save her sister that was kidnapped by a gang, except there's magic involved.
the worldbuilding was soooo cool, oh my gosh! it's clearly inspired off of actual witchcraft & paganism, with sigils and talismans and runes, and then making it more fantastical too.
it's a triology, so the romance can go slow (THANK GOD). it's not even mentioned in the first novel, so now it's just lured me in to actually like it, ughhh. the love interest is this fineeee man, to be blunt about it. oh my gosh. i havent fawned over a book character like this since i was twelve.
the ending was really cool, too! the plot twists surprised me, and the ending was actually freaky in that horror book way. it led into the sequel really well, too!
another thing i wanna mention is that the author went about it in a really careful way, which i love! there's a land acknowledgement at the start of the book, and she made sure to keep the cast diverse, which is accurate to the actual wild west.
but anyways! if you like fantasy books, i highly recommend it!
