“Too Many Teeth”, a horror poem written by me

“Can you hear it, too?

that hiss—“

Streetlights flicker, blink out,

leaving shadows room to play.

The air—

damp, heavy,

smells of wet pavement,

rotting leaves.

My skin absorbs the cold.

Metal on my tongue.

A shape dances around me,

taunting me—

a low purr behind its laughter.

It moves quick, between bushes,

the scent of iron lingers.

A crimson trail

flashes in the corners of my eyes.

Then—stillness.

Out of the darkness,

a furry outline emerges,

its eyes examining me.

Teeth.

Too many teeth.

A wicked smile, lined with sharp knives.

Red drips off of its chin,

bits of flesh

 clinging to its crowded fangs.

“How many people have you killed?”

A gurgled scream dies in my throat.

Cold claws dig at my skin,

ribs snap.

Her teeth sink deep into my throat.

Labored gasps escape my lips.

The last thing I hear is that low,

mocking laughter

and the cracking of wet bones between

too many teeth.
