The F1 2026 calendar was revealed earlier today - here's how it looks if you haven't seen it:
What has changed?
The main change is the movement of the Canadian GP from it's usual slot in June to the date at which the Monaco GP is usually held - meaning that Canada now comes before both the Monaco and Spanish GP's. The other major change is that the Emilia Romagna GP has been dropped from the calendar totally. The only new circuit is the Madrid street circuit, which now takes the spot of the last European race of the season.
In my opinion this calendar is basically the same as this year's version, but there are some major differences. The obvious one is that we have on Imola GP, which is a shame, because it is a classic circuit. But if we are also being honest, the modern F1 cars don't race too well there. I wouldn't have really minded if they replaced it with a better track, but is a street circuit in Madrid really the best they could do? Spain already has a GP - what about Germany or France for another European race?
That is another problem - still no German Grand Prixπ‘π‘π‘π‘π‘π‘ Seriously? Like how???? There is literally two great circuits there in Hockenheim and the Nurburgring! They wouldn't even have to build a new track! And the best thing is they could rotate them like they used to do - one year at the Nurburgring, then next season at Hockenheim!!! It would be amazing and would keep the calendar always feeling fresh and exciting. Or at least they could do this for Spain too instead of getting rid of Catalunya after 2026. Rotate it with Madrid. I just think it's kinda unfair that some countries get more than one race.
Obviously people will mention three US races. But the crazy thing is that there is actually historical precedent for this! The US was the first country after Italy to host more than one F1 race in the same season in 1976 when races were held at Watkins Glen and Long Beach. In 1982 F1 even had three races in the US too - at Long Beach, Detroit and Ceasars Palace! I think two is fine - COTA and Vegas should stay, while Miami can be binned. Maybe it should be replaced by another race in Asia - I would love Malaysia to come back, but apparently Thailand are interested in hosting a Grand Prix! Or even a African race in South Africa (where they used to race at Kyalami) or even a new circuit in Marrakesh! Maybe even an Argentina return? The best thing about F1 is that it is a global sport, travelling around the world - it's a problem when there are too many races in one country.
BRING BACK THE EUROPEAN GRAND PRIX!!! It's the easiest solution. Have a rotating slot open and put like 5 circuits there - say Imola, Magny-Cours, one of the German races, Estoril/Portimao, Mugello, maybe even Istanbul - and just rotate it every season. This will mean that we still get to have the tracks we love in F1. Not every track needs an 8 or 9 year contract! The idea of rotating circuits should be more commonly used.
And then the last problem is that apparently the Canadian GP is going to be on at exactly the same time as the Indy 500 so... great way to tank your North American market F1.
Otherwise the calendar is still alright - the good tracks like Australia, Canada, Austria, Silverstone, Belgium, Monza, Hungary, COTA and Brazil are all still there. I would love to hear what you guys have to think about the new calendar!

hear me out: 11 rotating races, while the 11 most important stay fixed? 22 is a healthy number, FIA!
That's actually a really interesting idea - imo Australia, Japan, Canada, Monaco, Spain, Austria, Britain, Belgium, Hungary, Italy and Brazil would be my 11 to stay while the others can rotate. Sadly they will probably never do it because they like money and the circuits also want guaranteed contracts to protect themselves but I like it a lot! There's so many other circuits around the world that F1 should visit but can't because they lock themselves in 6 year contracts that rotation should be used way more often!

Gonna have to watch the Canadian GP while watching the Indy 500
lol
and EXACTLY!! They replace such a classic track with a fricken street circuit.. like bro we got enough of those already.. and why not other tracks cause u make a good point of how Germany got some good tracks they should bring back!!
Like they should really think like how many people would ACTALLY enjoy old European circuits to come and or come back to f1!! Like people would probably pay to go even more!!
Exactly! Like a third of the calendar is already street circuits! We don't need anymore, we need more proper tracks that are literally built with the purpose of being race tracks!
