Kampuchea (កម្ពុជា។) #2

One of the main aspects of Cambodia that I admire is their music. Their wedding music involves several Khmer instruments, instruments like the Chapei Dang Veng, the Roneat Ek, and the Tro. I think the wedding music is one of Cambodia's most outspoken form of traditonal music, with percussion patterns that of Indian traditional music, hypnotic and uniform, with the Chinese-like fiddle music. It makes for a hypnotic, beautiful listen.

In terms of historical music, Khmer rock & roll was a unique blend of American culture flowing from South Vietnam of the 1960s. Singers like Sinn Sisamouth became legends. Among other singers, were Pan Rom, and Ros Sereysothea.

What these singers have in common is a blend of Khmer rhythms and instruments with traditional rock & roll elements of guitars, or drums. It makes for a very intresting, fun listen, sometimes hypnotic if you find the right song.
