Clothing Care & Sewing

Hello guys, welcome to my little corner of the internet! For those who are new to my blog, I share my thoughts and experiences about random things here. If you like it, please SpaceHey me, I would love to know who reads these!

Anyways, today I decided to create a capsule wardrobe! It's basically a small collection of clothes that you can easily mix and match with other clothes for different occasions. It's especially important for when you are going on a vacation and you're trying to bring as minimal clothes as possible! Here are some outfits I made with 13 pairs of clothing. I made a few for cases when I'm going shopping, picnicking, to the beach, to a fancy restaurant, casual indoor places and even some to dress for the occasional weather changes.

Before I start, I want to introduce the clothes I will be mixing and matching with: Click here...

I chose these clothes to mix and match with because they're all simple colours that you can easily match with other clothes, depending on the occasion and the season. As well, they are honestly all of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe, so I knew how to mix and match them with other stuff. And many of them had built-in bras, so if I were hypothetically going on a vacation, I wouldn't need to bring multiple pairs of bras.

Firstly, if I were to go on a picnic, with this collection of clothes, I would I would wear either my brown or blue chequered top with some bloomer shorts as it would give off a kind of cute cottage core which I think really suits the vibe for a picnic.. Though both outfits have shorts and would only be good for hot days. However, what happens if it were to be a bit chilly? Thus, I could wear the same tops with these low-rise flare jeans, which I believe would still suit the picnic occasion and the chilly weather. Click to view them here...

Next, if I were to go shopping with my family or friends, I believe having a stylish outfit would fit the occasion. Thus, I would wear either a red jumpsuit with flare jeans or a V-crop top with some baggy pants, depending on whether I feel like wearing looser or tighter clothes on the day. Sometimes, even if I still want to look well put together, I will still wear clothes that are on the baggy side as I just want to feel comfortable. Especially when sometimes tight clothes rub onto my skin, I might start to feel uncomfortable walking around the mall a lot. Though it really depends on the day, as most of the time it's the hot air that can get my clothes to feel uncomfortable rubbing against me. Click to view them here...

If I were to go to the beach and decided not to go into the water, I would wear this black lace top with either my bloomers, jean shorts, or even with my flare pants if it got a bit chilly. Since the top is sleeveless, I feel like I’d be comfortable wearing it as I wouldn't get too hot in the sun. I also think all the pants I chose are casual enough to wear anywhere, so I wouldn’t be drawing attention by wearing anything too bold. Plus, I've worn the bloomers and jean shorts before to the beach, and they never seem to collect sand, which makes them especially perfect for a trip to the beach. Click to view them here...

Now, if I were to go to any kind of fancy restaurant, but I didn't bring a dress especially for the occasion, I would wear my bloomers with my blue chequered top or even with my black lace top. I feel like the bloomers honestly look like a skirt, so it would make up for me not having a dress. Also, the tops are pretty stylish, so I don't think it gives off the “I am going to a fast food restaurant” kind of vibe. Though sometimes it's cold in restaurants, so I would wear the same tops but with my low-rise flare jeans instead. Click to view them here...

If I were to go on a stroll or maybe just be in a random public place, I would just wear something casual. Thus, I would probably pair my blue polo shirt with my jean shorts, low-rise flare jeans, or my baggy jeans. I feel like these outfits don't grab too much attention, and they're all easy to just throw on if I am going on a small errand while I am on vacation. As well, all the jeans are blue, which makes them match with my blue polo. Click to view them here...

Finally, if I were to go to the gym while I was on vacation, I would wear my black or red jumpsuit. Since the jumpsuits are both one-piece, it's perfect for running in the gym as I won't have to bother adjusting my clothes. As well, they are both sleeveless, short-legged, and made of spandex, which makes them super comfortable and easy to move in. Click to view them here...

Challenges -

Personally, I found it challenging to choose what to include in my capsule wardrobe because I wanted to stick to basic essentials like sweatpants, graphic tees, and leggings, but also make sure I could still express my personal style. Thus, I made sure to choose the clothes I wear most often and that I’ve already mixed and matched with other clothes in my wardrobe. This allowed me to have some sort of idea of what other clothes I can incorporate into my capsule wardrobe that would also fit with other items. As well, I also had a hard time considering what outfits I could possibly wear if there was a sudden weather change, as none of my long pants in my wardrobe are really my style and didn’t match with the stylish tops I chose.

Favourite parts -

My favourite part of making a capsule wardrobe was the fact that I was able to use the very few clothing that were my most favourite in my wardrobe and turn them all into amazing outfits. I also got to use my eye for creativity for something I enjoy, which was mixing and matching clothes to fit my personal clothing taste. Also ever since I discovered the Whering app, I've been enjoying creating my own outfit inspiration just like the ones I see on Pinterest.

What I learned -

I was able to learn how to create a variety of different outfits using one of the same tops or pants. This was interesting to me, as sometimes I tend to feel like I don’t have enough clothes to not repeat at least once or twice a month. However, this little activity showed me that with a bit of creativity, I can make the most out of what I already own, while also still being able to feel confident in what I’m wearing. As well, I also learned that I don’t need to pack a lot of clothes for a vacation, since I can create a variety of different outfits for various occasions using just a small collection of clothing.

How it connects to my life -

This skill is helpful because it allows me to know how to simplify my wardrobe and make use of it. Whether I’m going on vacation, to a sleepover, or just visiting my grandparents for a short time, this skill helps me pack only what I need while still having a variety of outfits to wear for any occasion.

What Helped me to Create a Capsule Wardrobe -

When making the capsule wardrobe, I learnt a few things about how to mix and match:

Firstly, it's good to stick with the basic colours, or a pack of colours that complement each other. This is because basic colours like black and brown can particularly fit with anything, whether it's a pants or a top. Additionally, choosing colors that complement each other gives you a color palette to work with, making it easier to find pieces that match. This takes away the stress of trying to put outfits together, since most of your clothes will already go well with one another. Additionally, it's good to stick to one color temperature to ensure all of your clothes will look good with each other. In my case, I used a cold color scheme with colors of white, black and brown and some dark blue.

Sometimes I feel like I don't have enough clothes to consistently wear outfits that truly reflect my style. Specifically, when I’m getting ready for school, I often find myself repeating outfits I’ve already worn for the month because I feel like I lack enough clothes to mix and match to my personal taste. However, making a capsule wardrobe has taught me that I can make a variety of outfits with a small amount of clothes. Additionally, if I ever really needed a capsule wardrobe for a vacation, I now know how to create one. Overall, this skill helps me save stress from overpacking for a vacation or even choosing what clothes I should bring, as now I know how to mix and match using a small collection of clothes. Additionally, as I now know how to make use of my wardrobe, this saves me money from needing to buy more clothes, as I really do have enough clothes to make so different outfits.

Thus, I hope this has inspired you to try building your own capsule wardrobe and discover how fun and practical it can be! Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the internet, I’d love to hear about your own fashion adventures, so feel free to SpaceHey me anytime!

Also, I have other outfit options that I didn't have time to include here, so please look at this website to see!
