People aren't ready for sites like Spacehey

I had a conversation with my friend about how I felt more comfortable and healthy when using sites like Spacehey, Tumblr and Newgrounds. He said it was because they're essentially dead and I agree.

Spacehey is underground, no one besides some people on Tiktok know about Spacehey (this is literally how I met It), and maybe this is kinda weird for me to say, but I don't think Spacehey should really be mainstream or as active as other social media to be good.

I always see users complaining about how everyone just makes an account for the aesthetic and no one really tries to even be active, and that's true. I think we can all agree that people don't stay here not because the site is bad or because ir has issue, but because it isn't the overstimulating app everyone is used to in this era.

Think about it! The internet wasn't always like this. The internet used to be kind of a privilege, a tool for school and work projects and sometimes, you'd visit random websites or spend a few hours on Youtube.

But now? The internet is literally part of our lives. Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter, these are massive internet monsters EVERYONE has at least one of these (me included) and the thing about them Is that they're all overstimulating in a way or another.

Twitter and its constant fights over literally everything, fake news or just need about things you don't even care or follow.

Tiktok is literally a trap at this point, with all the time it takes from people, yk doomscrolling and extremely short videos that sometimes you don't even watch fully.

And Instagram Is just a copy of Twitter and Tiktok, but mostly for chatting directly.

People in this era aren't ready to leave behind the habits that these apps have developed in them, and can you blame them? This has been everyone's lives since 2020, when people had to stay inside and the internet became almost the only way to contact with people.

Spaces like Spacehey or Newgrounds are "boring" because they're not meant to have you online for hours, because these are spaces with the only purpose to shared stuff with a community. Yes, Spacehey is a social media, but think about the rest of socials and tell me how many of the things you do here, you do there?

I don't make blogs on Instagram or Tiktok, I don't see any feature where I can join a forum to talk about a topic.

Do you seem where I'm trying to go now?

The internet is slowly dying, with the comercialization of everything, the use of AI, the bots that are EVERYWHERE, the people who can't stop being online without overstimulating their brains for hours non-stop. Idk about you but I think the internet right now sucks.

But it's hard to just leave social media like that and adapt to socials like Spacehey because literally your whole social circles is in those apps.

I think the least we can do for ourselves is to enjoy our little corner. Yes, I wish it was more active, I wish I could just leave Instagram and I could talk to all my friends from here.

But if Spacehey was mainstream, I think it would end up like the rest soon or late. Filled with AI bots, shitty content AND stuff like that.

I prefer spaces like Spacehey because they're more authetic. I feel like I'm seeing actual people and connecting with them in a way that Instagram, Tiktok or Twitter will never do for me.

I wanted to talk about this topic because I think it's interesting and it was a good excuse to make a blog.

Anyways, maybe this is just my opinion...

I never got to have a site like this growing up, had some pretty strict parents, and I saw this as some sort of nostalgia I missed out on. At first I was annoyed at some of the posts where people were arguing about things that don't matter but as I reflect I remember so many times that my friends would be arguing about things that don't matter with people on the internet.
Though I do wish that more active so I can meet more people but i agree that I don't want this site to become the Advert Hellscape that is every other social media app. I mean my TikTok has turned into one big ad cause every single person is selling somethingin every video.
I want to keep this space as my little pocket of nostalgia, ad free, and full of nonsense.

i agree with you on everything, i admit im not that active on here as id like to be, but honestly just getting online and looking at other peoples blogs feels like such a detox from other platforms like twitter and stuff,,,,

i used to look for authenticity in youtube but as of late everyone just seems to copy every little thing someone else does, i honestly think its because of tiktok and short form content, trends die in weeks and people do the same 3 videos and everything gets saturated so quickly, so its good to get in here from time to time and see actual people, and actual creativity....

i agree with you, and funny enough i only use youtube (to see this one youtuber who posts once a week), reddit, but im slowly getting off of it thanks to hanging out with friends and building my fort in the woods, and spacehey, which im very new too, but like cause its not overstimulating. I LITERALLY cant stand those overstimulating social medias. not only does it give me a headache, but it makes me snappy an pissy, so its clearly not good for me. im thankful i was raised with not as much tech, thats basically what i want to say. Its easier to balance out tech and life for me

Ohyeah, hanging out with friends totally helps a lot to keep ourselves out of the internet.
I feel it's also why a lot of people don't hang out anymore, because the internet became so overstimulating people don't have energy to even stand up, which is sad because I love going out... play at the arcade, eat with my friend while we gossip, or just spend time outside.

The little things people don't like anymore...

yeah man, I still gotta go to the arcade with my friends. thankfully, my pawnshop has Mario Bros and Duck hunt up for playing, and i asked him if he could put up guitar hero, and he might actually do it, so that way while i wait to buy guitar hero myself and the guitar

I just had a conversation about this with someone on here! I agree with all the AI stuff. I think we really passed a step when generative AI became a thing. Now it's everywhere; and it's a nightmare, especially as someone who, at the very start of AI got completely addicted to it through apps like Character AI. I was younger and absolutely desperate for any parasocial activity. I still struggle today with this addiction, and I'm not afraid to call it that because it really is a goddamned addiction. It all is just so dystopian. I'm glad I've realized how bad it was. I've also realized I'm no exception. Many, many, many people fall for these technologies and with AI, some have already payed with their life. It's horrifying to see how it's everywhere now. It just makes it even harder for people who had the same experience as me - not to whine about my situation, of course; only explaining my view of it.
Spacehey is such a good place that I truly cherish. I've had more meaningful and thoughtful conversations here than on any other platforms ever. It's authentic. It's peaceful. I love it here.

I joined this app in less than an hour and I can already see what you're talking about.
Today I've been trapped in Instagram all damn day and that feels like the day ended quickly.
I live in a place away from my friends and I rarely see them, I'm around only in school.
Even when we are all together, they mostly prefer the phone besides having conversations or doing something fun.
My parents are at home all the time and it looks like they don't want to go anywhere, so I have nothing to do besides scrolling.
I'm really liking this app because I know that I'm not going to spend much time in it

Sadly, this is true. Call me crazy, but AI is everywhere, there's AI bots and AI posts on Twitter and Tiktok, even YouTube.
Is almost no one is real now, I don't even trust the blue checked accounts on Twitter because since you can buy it, I'm pretty sure a lot of those are bots.
The content un the internet has become just that, content, something to sell, youtubers barely even try at this point, everyone is focused on streamers, there's nothing actually good to watch or listen to in this era.
It's almost like we've lost our humanity

click on the <> you see when creating a blog, put the code there and then click back on the <> and start writing what you want

by Pão_Com_Manteiga; ; Report

You can use almost any layout code.
When you're making a blog, there's a corner where you'll see two arrows, click it and paste the code there, click it again and done! :D
There's also layouts made only for blogs, but they're very few and often simple

I'm like genuinely so close to deleting TikTok and Instagram... I hate doomscrolling. Really the only reason I still use Instagram is to talk to my friends because apparently texting is weird now or whatever. As for TikTok??? Idk... I used to post a lot and a few of them got popular, but I haven't really posted anything substantial in like, a year, so now I pretty much just use it to scroll and have people tell me some dumb thing that Trump did or that we're in another World War... It's honestly so draining.

i think this is very much true!!!!! the fact that people simply arent used to more chill and down-to-earth sites like spacehey is, as you stated, because these days the internet is much more of a dominating force than it was before and more than ever does it try and lure people in through overstimulation... even when users find themselves questioning the point or losing track of what they are even seeing anymore

modern and mainstream social platforms are like a very rowdy club party everyones invited to with strobing lights and blasting music from all angles... everyones figuratively getting drunk in their environment just to feel like they are a part of something and are constantly making stupid decisions as a result... and even those that are sober still find themselves staying in this loud mess of an area because its a hot spot and theyre not sure where else to go because theres no party quite as seemingly great as this one

meanwhile more underground and unconventional social networks like spacehey are more like a casual house party where theres less people but most of them are familiar with each other and its much more relaxed... people are doing all sorts of different things like board games or chatting or having dinner because its a versatile house but nobodys really losing control over themselves for the sake of standing out

This was such an interesting and also funny example lol
I agree, it feels like that.

Yes, you get it. The internet used to be divorced from the rest of our lives. It wasn't constantly in the palms of our hands. The computer room was a designated space for the computer. We could step away from it and it wouldn't affect us. I don't think people are even supposed to be active on here all the time. The site isn't "dead" because people step away for a few days; that's healthy.

Kudos on the blog! I find that reading and writing is a luxury that I would not trade for the most superfluous, hedonistic of things. I have my own saying that life nowadays is so hedonistic, it's boring.
I'm not fond of the internet too, it deploys us from utilising our brains- disrupting our cognition. I once heard this saying- relating to art but I find it to be relevant- paint for yourself, not for everyone. As you said, this is more like a diary, blogging about your life, passions, and what-not. (Though, a lot of people treat this as a diary forget that this is public-- breaking the TOS and rules). But when you write for yourself or someone in particular, it's more meaningful and impactful.

I do hope people realise that popularity is not a virtue. Sure, the numbers may be high but you'll be forgotten as soon as you were seen. Building connections is so much more beneficial for your mental morality and mortality

I saw this on someone's blog this morning so I felt like adding It here because I think it's also a reason.

People can't enjoy even making blogs on Spacehey because they expect it to be the same as Instagram, Tiktok or other socials where you get a thousand of likes and attention.
You know, Spacehey is like Facebook, you're not trying to be an influencer, you're trying to make things for YOURSELF and share them with your friends and maybe let some random people see it too.

My friend told me he didn't like Spacehey because no one gave him kudos or commented, he claimed "you post things because you don't care if people see them anymore. I make thinks because I want people to see them" and thinking a little, I feel this is why people complain about Spacehey not being active.

You guys have to learn that Spacehey is more like a personal diary than a social like Instagram or Twitter. Maybe if you didn't worry about those things, you'd actually enjoy the site

Report Comment

I fall into the same mentality to sometimes when I make a blog post and don't get any replies. But hopefully the more I use this site, I can learn to crave less validation from people online, or at least on spacehey.

preach. I think that our small community is more important than we think it is. the fact that there are still people who want to experience this type of things (not only for aesthetics) means that we are not completely fucked and the fact that most people can acknowledge that web 2.0 social media has gotten overstimulating is also a good sign. and I don't think AI is going to get us anywhere. I hope it's going to die out sooner or later.

AI is degrading human intelligence, which I already didn't have much hope in by the time ChatGPT started making the rounds. I share your hope that it'll die out and it'll be another fad that passes... you don't hear a single soul talking about NFTs anymore. Thank God for that.
