Deltarune Shadow Crystal Theory

Hi! I'm super sorry I've been on hiatus for a bit... but I'm back and ready to blog! Today's blog is special to me because I've been playing this game ever since it came out, I know every corner, dialogue and every single move in the boss fights. I have yet to explore chapter 3 and 4 but will do so tomorrow as well as search around for secrets as well as cook up new theories. BYR - This was written from 12-3am, its also a rant theory so some parts will just be flung in.

WHAT IS A SHADOW CRYSTAL?

A Shadow Shard or a Shadow Crystal, which appear as Glass in the Light World. Shadow Crystals allow users to see the true selves of others or even break the boundaries between the Dark and Light worlds with one single crystal. Using the Shadow Crystal you're seeing "The Hidden Truth"

(thank you to @Liny_An on reddit for providing the pictures on reddit, I highly recommend reading their theory too)r/Deltarune - When in Chapter 1's Dark World

Now, for this theory we have to go way back to Undertale, As Frisk you're set on a mission to embark on a journey to return to the surface. During this journey you encounter monsters, but they all seem to be wanting the same thing. To fight you to the death. Why? Because they are influenced to get the final human soul, When you combine the great 7 souls (Kindness, Patience, Bravery, Justice, Integrity, Perseverance and Determination) , you allow the monster to destroy the Barrier and leave the Underground. 7 souls that are suppose to be great and pure combined make a powerful weapon that leads to chaos. Turning back to Deltarune as you fight secret bosses you collect a shadow crystal. These crystals manipulate reality through both worlds.

EX- If you look through the Shadow Crystal when you're near Susie you see her glaring at you like coldly but she's actually smiling at you when you move the glass

r/Deltarune - When accompanied by Susie in the Light World

When kris looks through the glass shard during one of the ending scenes (aka when you get back to school) he sees right through his hands, almost like a hole through his hands. Many theories include Gaster's soul in these crystals. But I believe Gaster was a monster who manipulated many through his crystals. By collecting his (Gaster's) “Followers” -> The secret bosses. Jevil and Spamton could both have been manipulate via the crystals they were given as they saw a manipulated "reality" of the world which is why they want to change it or take over that dark world. Seam too, I believe he was once a follower of Gaster with a Shadow Crystal since he seems to know about the Shadow Crystals as well as Jevil way more than anyone else in the story, but does not seem to have his own. The crystals could reveal hidden information which could mean why Jevil and Spamton have such unusual behaviors. Back to Seam, He suggests to hold onto the crystals for you, telling you to bring them to him when you defeat secret bosses as he would combine them could possibly make a pure crystal. Deltarune is supposed to have 7 chapters meaning you could contain 7 Shadow Crystals. This part is a little silly but the 7 souls are based off 7 core human traits, So could the 7 evil bosses be based off The 7 Deadly sins (Pride, Greed, Wrath, Envy, Lust, Gluttony, and Sloth), Jevil would be considered as prideful, and Spamton as Greed or Envy. Unlike the main bosses, neither consider changing their ways of wanting to change the world they're manipulated into seeing. Future secret bosses could be also sinners, seeing the world in a twisted way that makes them insanely dedicated to getting kris to help them achieve that goal, only to be defeated by him. Makes you wonder.. what could Seam possibly want all the crystals for? Even if he makes a pure crystal, how do we know its actually pure?
