My Thoughts on Current Social Media + Why Sites like Spacehey are Important (in my opinion)
Recently (yesterday), I deleted Instagram and I did not realize how often I go on that app. I will literally mindlessly try to open the app and obviously there is no app there. But, without thinking, I've been opening this app, why? If I'm not actively thinking about opening it, why am I still trying to open it?
I still have Twitter and TikTok, but even deleting Instagram I've been way less on my phone and I was so so creative yesterday. Short form content is truly frying our brains. They want you to be addicted and they want you to mindlessly scroll. These social media companies don't give two shits about your wellbeing, even if they preach that they do. And I hate so much how long form content feels like a dying art. Every movie and show is a remake, every piece of content is not more than 15 seconds long, and our average attention span is 8 seconds. When you are watching Youtube on the T.V, videos that are more than like 25ish min long are considered a "long video" and then they give you more ads. 5 years ago, 20 minute videos seemed to be the norm? And of course there's still so so many videos that are that length, but does Youtube, a huge site, really need to milk that much money out of their videos?
Every social media has seemed to catch on to the whole short form content = more money and views thing. The moment TikTok got big, Youtube and Instagram did their own form of it. Why do we need every app to be the same? Why can't they all have their own niches and something special about them? Why is Instagram, an app built on the emphasis of photos, putting so much emphasis on short form videos now?
I like Spacehey so much because you CAN'T mindlessly scroll, there's only so many posts until you've seen it all. It doesn't have short form videos and it sticks to its niche. It allows you to have total freedom over your profile and there's less of an emphasis on followers. You have to be mutuals with people, popularity isn't as big of a thing on here as it is open every other social media site. It's so much easier to talk to people on here and find people of similar interests.
Another side rant as I'm writing this: Digital shopping has ruined so many great things about going to places like the mall. Today I went to a mall that was completely dead, not a single person walking there. Like 6 years ago, I remember so vividly that mall being busy. Also, certain stores, like Joann's closing. Going to places is so much more fun than buying some cheap shit online and not even knowing if what you're getting is what you ordered.
just some things i've been thinking about recently

couldn't agree anymore. i recently convinced myself to make a general detoxification of social media. i take a few looks at instagram, but sometimes with breaks of days, and always making sure to go to the chronological timeline tab to only see posts from ppl i follow; cleaned my twitter leaving just people whose tweets really interest me and does me well, always on the chronological tab again for the same reason i said before, no shit recommend by algorithms, as it, especially on twitter only shows you the most toxic and stupid things. doing all that and coming back to spacehey really made a difference. i was going insane with all the pressure, drama and most of all negativity from social media and its not even a joke
