Makoto Yuki and Kotone Shiomi; Two Sides of The Same Coin

in the game Persona 3 Portable, you have the option of two different main characters, Makoto Yuki and Kotone Shiomi. the two are often seen as people from parallel universes or "twins in different worlds" as they face the exact same troubles as eachother. they share a story, a past, and friendships. 

however similar they are, they could not be any different. makoto is dressed in blues, grays, all monotone colors alike. kotone is dressed in reds, oranges, all the bright colors you imagine. one is seen as sad, while the other is seen as happy.

they are both sad. very, very sad. 

with makoto, it is very easy to tell he is depressed, as seen as his haircut which is VERY mid 2000s emo (as shown above) and he rarely smiles or laughs. hes a very quiet person, taking the time to care for others in ways he would not himself. he, as well as kotone, keeps his depression within himself, but its very easily shown through his words, actions, and the way he carries himself.

with kotone, its much harder to tell. shes all smiles, going out to karaoke, and taking care of herself. she radiates joy like its bound to her in her soul. she loves her friends and cares about them as makoto, and shes able to show that outward.

their colors as blue and pink arent just because of boy/girl dynamics, but because thats who they are at the core, blue and pink. makoto sees the world in a very nihilistic way, while kotone looks at is in a optimistic way.

and yet, she seems to hide behind her smile and have the dread of death behind her, instead of in front of her. 

idk maybe this is SO headcanon i just really like p3 and kotone specifically. dont read too much into this LOL
