okay so like for my bio final project I wrote about the sharks evolution! so yea its a bit sloppy but here you go!!
I love sharks if you can't tell
THE FIRST RECOGNIZABLE SHARK !!!!!:3
The first recognizable shark was the antarctilamna but they was actually closer to the eels than sharks but they were conderd shark-like because of their skeleton had a shark-like skull and jaw which was fused together, but then the cladoselache sharks appeared taking over the title of the first group of sharks that we actually recognized.
THE GOLDEN AGE OF SHARKS aka The Carboniferous Period
At the end of the Devonian period , a mass extinction event killed off at least 75% of all species on Earth, including many lineages of fish that once swam the oceans. This allowed sharks to dominate the ocean. Although is was a semi great period for sharks is also had the the most the bizarre sharks such as the Stethacanthus, Helicoprion, and the falcatus shark
The origin of sharks’ fearsome jaws
At the end of the Permian Period there was another mass extinction event, wiping out around 96% of all marine life. But a handful of shark lineages persisted.By the Early Jurassic Period, the oldest-known group of modern sharks, the Hexanchiformes or sixgill sharks, which had evolved. They were followed during the rest of the Jurassic by most modern shark groups. It was at this point that they evolved flexible, protruding jaws, allowing the animals to eat prey bigger than themselves, while also evolving the ability to swim faster.
SHARKS SHIRKING
At the being of the Cretaceous period, sharks were widely common and varied in ancient seas well before their fifth mass extinction event, but then even with this extinct event towards the end-Cretaceous extinction event, that had extinct merjordy of non-avian dinosaurs, sharks had managed to survive. But they were still affected by the larger species of sharks at least but the small and deep-water species that managed to survive on fish. Also are shrinking due to a variety of factors, primarily unsustainable fishing practices, bycatch, and overfishing.
♡ HAMMERHEAD SHARK EVOLUTION ♡
The Hammerhead shark is the youngest shark group to survive for millions of years. There are 10 types of hammerheads The Great Hammerhead, The bonehead, The winghead, and The Smooth hammerhead ect they are all relelated.Hammerhead sharks are known for their hammer shaped head hence the name hammerhead, but their scientific name is sphyrnidae which means hammer in Greek. There are 10 different species of hammerheads such as the great hammerhead, the smooth hammerhead, and the whitefin hammerhead. They can live up to 13-20 years, weigh about 500-1,000 pounds, and they can be 11 to 20 feet tall. Their diet consists primarily of stingrays, other rays and skates although some may also consume other sharks, including other hammerhead sharks, bony fish, including groupers, sea catfish, squid, and bottom dwelling crustaceans. A hammerhead shark uses its head to trap stingrays by pinning them to the sea floor The shark's eye placement, on each end of its very wide head, allows it to scan more area more quickly than other sharks can. The hammerhead also has special sensors across its head that helps it scan for food in the ocean. Living creatures' bodies give off electrical signals, which are picked up by sensors on the prowling hammerhead. They are fairly harmless towards humans and only have a few attracts documented attacks are exceedingly rare. Most hammerhead species are shy and tend to avoid human interaction. Since Scalloped hammerhead fins are traded in shark fins , it's slowly ended the hammerhead shark population. Fun fact babies hammerheads sharks are called pups also did you know since they have eyes that allow 360 degrees of vision that allows a small blind spot right in front of their nose, they can tan and Great hammerheads can swim sideways
